【Health Reminder】
Dairy products are the best dietary source of calcium.

Dr. Wu Tao, Chief Physician of the Bone Disease Department at the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University, reminded that calcium supplementation should not only focus on the content, but also on the calcium source and absorption. The level of calcium concentration does not necessarily correlate with the absorption rate.

Many people like to eat dried shrimp to supplement calcium in their daily lives. Dried shrimp indeed contain an extremely rich amount of calcium, with 991 milligrams of calcium per 100 grams, even higher than the calcium content in milk. However, dried shrimp are difficult for the human stomach and intestines to digest and absorb, so the effect of calcium supplementation is not ideal. Dairy products are the best dietary source for calcium supplementation. Each 100 milliliters of milk contains 104 milligrams of calcium. Although the calcium content alone does not seem very high, milk contains a rich variety of minerals, and the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is very appropriate, making it highly conducive to calcium absorption.

Scientists Discover New Pathway for Treating Itchy Skin

Nature Chemical Biology published a study online, revealing the mechanism of action of a small-molecule inhibitor associated with pruritus in skin diseases and confirming its potential for treating various skin conditions.

Researchers screened a molecular library containing 110,000 compounds through high-throughput drug screening and ultimately identified Trpvicin as a high-affinity TRPV3 antagonist (TRPV3 is one of the six members of the transient receptor potential vanilloid channel family). The effect of Trpvicin was validated in animal models, and experiments showed that Trpvicin could effectively alleviate both chronic and acute pruritus in mice caused by dermatitis. Using an established animal model of hair loss in the laboratory, it was found that Trpvicin also had a significant therapeutic effect on hair loss caused by TRPV3 mutations.

Eating More Dietary Fiber Can Alleviate Mental Stress

A new study published in Molecular Psychiatry shows that increasing the daily intake of fermented foods and dietary fiber, and sticking to it for 4 weeks, can significantly alleviate mental stress.

Forty-five healthy volunteers were divided into two groups. Half of the volunteers increased the proportion of fiber and fermented foods in their diet. This dietary strategy is called the psychobiotic diet. At the start of the experiment and midway through, dietitians instructed them to include 6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables high in prebiotic fiber, 5-8 servings of grains, and 2-3 servings of fermented foods daily. The other half of the control group followed general dietary recommendations based on the food pyramid. After four weeks, the experimental group reported a reduction in perceived stress compared to the control group.

Proposed Additional Indications for Autologous Lymphocyte Injection

The official website of the Center for Drug Evaluation of the National Medical Products Administration shows that the new indication application for KACM001 Autologous Lymphocyte Injection, independently developed by Beijing Biohealthcare Biotechnology Co., Ltd., has been accepted.

KACM001 is an autologous lymphocyte injection independently developed by Beijing Biohealthcare Biotechnology, with independent intellectual property rights. It is also the first Category 1 new drug in China to be combined with first-line treatment regimens for the treatment of solid tumors, specifically targeting advanced unresectable/metastatic gastric cancer. The submission of a new indication for KACM001 marks an important milestone in Beijing Biohealthcare Biotechnology’s development of innovative cell therapies, indicating breakthrough progress in the field of cell therapy and paving the way for future rapid growth.

Premature Death May Be Linked to Vitamin D Deficiency

The Annals of Internal Medicine published a new study proving that vitamin D deficiency is associated with premature death, which encourages people to follow guidelines for healthy vitamin D levels. The study shows that the more severe the vitamin D deficiency, the higher the risk of death.

Researchers randomly evaluated 307,601 records from the UK Biobank database. The average level of vitamin D was 45.2 nmol/L, while levels below 25 nmol/L were considered to indicate a deficiency. During the 14-year follow-up period, researchers found that as vitamin D concentration increased, the risk of mortality significantly decreased, with the most pronounced effect observed in individuals severely deficient in vitamin D. Researchers believe that more studies are now needed to develop effective public health strategies.
