On November 15, the website of the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) under the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) disclosed that the MK-0616 capsule, submitted by MSD, had received tacit approval for clinical trials. It is intended to be developed for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Public information shows that MK-0616 is a new type of cholesterol-lowering drug, an oral PCSK9 inhibitor, which has already entered phase 2 clinical research overseas. Results from phase 1 clinical trials showed that when MK-0616 was used in combination with statins, it could reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in the blood by 65%.

In addition to the MK-0616 capsule, on May 13 this year, the NMPA website announced that MSD's antiviral drug letermovir injection had been approved for marketing. The product is reported to have a novel anti-CMV effect by inhibiting the activity of the cytomegalovirus terminase complex, preventing the processing and packaging of viral DNA, thereby exerting its antiviral function. Therefore, news of multinational pharmaceutical companies setting up factories and establishing R&D centers in mainland China has been frequently emerging in recent years.
