GSK announced on November 22 that it will stop selling its blood cancer drug Blenrep in the United States but will continue the drug’s trial program, allowing some patients to opt-in for continued treatment. Earlier this month, the company stated that Blenrep failed to meet the primary goal of a key study, which aimed to demonstrate its superiority over other therapies.
The drug received accelerated approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2020, for use in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have previously received at least four prior lines of therapy. Last year, the drug achieved global sales of £89 million, with approximately two-thirds coming from the United States.
According to a report by Reuters, a manager of GSK said that Blenrep continues to be sold in 17 other approved countries—mainly EU countries.
