The Wall Street Journal reported on December 9 that the European health regulator approved a new dengue vaccine developed by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, a decision that could pave the way for the global use of the vaccine to combat this devastating mosquito-borne virus. Takeda said on Thursday that the European Commission had approved the two-dose vaccine for use in people aged four and above.
The approval of the vaccine, named Qdenga, may accelerate its review in many countries outside Europe, such as Mexico, Argentina, and Thailand, where dengue fever is endemic. Indonesia approved Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited's vaccine for use in people aged 6 to 45 last summer.
