On January 18, 2023, the National Healthcare Security Administration officially released the results of the 2022 healthcare security negotiation. Sanofi's innovative cardiovascular drug, Dauravi (clopidogrel and aspirin tablets), was officially included in the "National Basic Medical Insurance, Work-related Injury Insurance, and Maternity Insurance Drug Catalog (2022)" for the prevention of atherothrombotic events in adult patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The new healthcare security catalog will be officially implemented starting from March 1, 2023.
ACS Treatment Guidelines in Europe, America, and China Consistently Recommend Dual Antiplatelet Therapy for All ACS Patients. However, in clinical practice in China, issues such as poor adherence to antiplatelet therapy and a higher incidence of bleeding and ischemic events have been observed, adversely affecting patient outcomes. Studies indicate that non-adherence to dual antiplatelet therapy increases mortality and hospitalization rates in ACS patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention and is significantly associated with higher mortality post-myocardial infarction. As a formulation combination recommended by authoritative guidelines, Duolivi is a single-pill combination product utilizing a unique "Tab in tab" (tablet within a tablet) technology, which significantly enhances adherence compared to the combination of aspirin and clopidogrel monotherapy, thereby improving clinical benefits for patients.
Professor Yong Huo, Director of the Cardiovascular Department at Peking University First Hospital, stated: "Dual antiplatelet therapy is the primary pharmacological treatment for ACS patients, but antiplatelet therapy and the continuous use of low-dose aspirin can both increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. The 'Tab in tab' special technology used in Multivit prevents aspirin from dissolving in the stomach, reducing the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, and can be taken either before or after meals. Additionally, this 'Tab in tab' design offers a more convenient medication method for the elderly population, minimizing the chances of 'missed doses' or 'incorrect doses.' The successful inclusion of Multivit in the medical insurance system will significantly improve patient accessibility, thereby reducing the medication and economic burden on patients, benefiting more ACS patients."
Mr. Wang Shi, President of Sanofi Greater China, stated: "As a globally leading pharmaceutical and healthcare enterprise, Sanofi always adheres to the principle of 'patient-centeredness' and is committed to enhancing drug accessibility through our innovative product portfolio via diversified approaches, allowing more patients to benefit from high-quality treatments. In this round of updates to the National Reimbursement Drug List (NRDL) in China, five of Sanofi's innovative drugs have achieved new breakthroughs. Notably, the cardiovascular innovation drug Multaq was included in the NRDL for the first time within less than a year of its commercial launch, fully demonstrating our steadfast commitment to patients in China. We deeply appreciate the relentless efforts made by the Chinese government to accelerate the inclusion of innovative drugs into the medical insurance system. Moving forward, we will continue to actively respond to national policies, ensuring that our innovative products can reach more Chinese patients at affordable prices, while fully supporting the early realization of the ‘Healthy China 2030’ vision."
