On February 13, Sanofi announced that Dr. John Reed, the company's global head of R&D, will resign to pursue new opportunities. Sanofi has begun searching for a successor from internal or external candidates. Dr. Dietmar Berger has agreed to temporarily take over the team. Since joining Sanofi in 2019, Dr. Berger has served as Chief Medical Officer and Global Head of Development. He has held positions at several pharmaceutical companies, including Genentech, Bayer, and Amgen, accumulating extensive and successful industry experience.

Since joining Sanofi in 2018, John has laid the foundation for the company's R&D transformation. He has helped reposition the discovery and development of new therapies at Sanofi, focusing on first-in-class and best-in-class drugs that have the potential to change medical practice and improve the lives of patients with serious diseases. At the same time, he has integrated and developed new technology platforms and partnerships, thereby enhancing R&D efficiency.

John once served as the Global Head of Roche's Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development. Before joining Roche, he was the CEO of a large, independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution, with an outstanding track record.
In 2023, Sanofi is set to launch two potential first and best in class drugs, addressing the primary needs of patients with hemophilia and respiratory syncytial virus, respectively. The company anticipates releasing 27 scientific data updates within the next 15 months, along with key clinical study data this year for multiple sclerosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/chronic bronchitis.
