MindRank Pharma Submits IND Application in China for MDR-001, the Sixth Domestic Oral Small Molecule GLP-1R Agonist

On February 14, the CDE website showed that MDR-001, a GLP-1R agonist developed by MindRank, submitted a clinical trial application in China for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and weight loss. This is the 17th China-produced GLP-1R agonist to apply for clinical trials, and also the 6th China-produced oral small molecule GLP-1R agonist.

MDR-001 is a non-competitive oral glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) small molecule agonist developed by MindRank through its AI-driven drug discovery platform, Molecule Pro. It received FDA approval for clinical trials in December 2022. Preclinical studies have shown that MDR-001 exhibits excellent efficacy and selectivity, favorable ADME and oral bioavailability, as well as superior pharmacokinetic properties, demonstrating best-in-class potential.

Currently, there are approximately 537 million adults with diabetes and about 650 million people with obesity globally. According to statistics, the global market size for GLP-1R agonist drugs reached $13.1 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow to $40.7 billion by 2030. Currently marketed GLP-1R agonists, such as semaglutide and liraglutide, are mostly peptide-based injectable medications, with no small-molecule GLP-1R agonists yet available on the market.

Other Chinese pharmaceutical companies布局oral small molecule GLP-1R agonists include MindRank, Huadong Medicine, and Salubris, among which MindRank's RGT-075 and Huadong Medicine's TTP273 have both entered Phase II clinical trials.
