AusperBio Announces First Cohort Dosing Completed in AHB-137 Phase I Clinical Trial in New ZealandHangzhou, China – AusperBio and its U.S.-based entity, AusperBio, announced today in Hangzhou, China, that the company has completed the first cohort dosing of adult healthy volunteers in the AHB-137 Phase I clinical trial recently conducted in New Zealand. Currently, AHB-137 has demonstrated good tolerability in all subjects.
The Phase I clinical trial of AusperBio's ASO drug AHB-137 is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics of AHB-137 in healthy volunteers, as well as its initial efficacy in patients with chronic hepatitis B (clinicaltrials.gov registration number NCT05717686). The AHB-137 drug can target all HBV RNA for degradation and demonstrated best-in-class capability in reducing hepatitis B surface antigen during preclinical studies, while also showing excellent safety. Two presentations detailing the comprehensive preclinical research results of AHB-137 have been submitted to the upcoming International Liver Congress to be held in June.
Dr. Guozheng Cheng, CEO & Co-founder of AusperBio, stated:
"We are very excited about the first human dosing of AHB-137 in New Zealand. ASO drugs targeting the hepatitis B surface antigen have demonstrated tremendous potential and are considered by industry key opinion leaders as a cornerstone for the functional cure of chronic hepatitis B. AusperBio's ASO drug, AHB-137, has shown best-in-class activity in reducing the hepatitis B surface antigen across numerous preclinical models."
"Currently, more than 250 million people worldwide are infected with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Chronic hepatitis B is a very difficult-to-cure viral infectious disease that can lead to cirrhosis and cancer. The current standard treatment can only suppress the replication of the hepatitis B virus, but the cure rate is very low. Therefore, it is urgent to develop safe drugs that can cure hepatitis B in a short period. AusperBio's ASO drug AHB-137 has the potential to bring about a transformation in the treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis B."
Dr. Chengyong Yang, CSO & Co-founder of AusperBio, stated:
"Completion of the first cohort dosing of AHB-137 in healthy volunteers is a significant milestone for AusperBio. We are extremely proud of the progress AusperBio has made over the past three years! We also look forward to advancing more HBV curative drugs into clinical trials for combination therapy in 2023. Meanwhile, we will harness the potential of our proprietary and highly advantageous ASO technology platform, expanding its application to non-viral targets both within and beyond the liver."
