Danaher Halts Acquisition of CDMO Giant Catalent Amid Operational Challenges

On April 18, according to foreign media reports, life science giant Danaher has stopped the acquisition of contract manufacturer (CDMO) Catalent, with the specific reasons unknown. Informed sources stated that Danaher may still restart the acquisition offer.

On April 14, not long ago, a business update provided by Catalent showed that production issues and higher-than-expected costs at its three plants, including its two largest manufacturing facilities (the gene therapy production base in Harmans, Maryland, and the drug substance and drug product plants in Bloomington, Spain, and Brussels, Belgium), would have a significant adverse impact on its fiscal year 2023 performance.

At the same time, Catalent announced that Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President Thomas Castellano has left, and will be temporarily replaced by President and Head of Clinical Development and Supply, Ricky Hopson.

Catalent is a globally renowned leading CDMO company, established in 1933, with its headquarters located in Somerset, New Jersey, USA. It was acquired by Blackstone Group in 2007, began independent operations in 2014, and was listed on the NYSE in July of the same year. The company has extensive industry service experience, with over 40 manufacturing facilities across five continents, employing nearly 13,500 staff, and reported revenue exceeding $4.8 billion in the fiscal year 2022.
