Ophthalmic Treatment Market Gains Momentum as Companies Accelerate New Moves and Product Launches

Recently, several ophthalmology enterprises have successively disclosed updates on project construction and product approvals.
 

Recently, Tianjin Century Healthcare Biomedical Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Century Healthcare), a strategic emerging enterprise in Tianjin, announced that it has increased its investment in the West Area of Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Zone (TEDA). Its Phase II industrialization project has officially started construction.
 

Public information shows that Tianjin Century Healthcare Biomedical Engineering Co., Ltd. is a production enterprise of Class III high-end ophthalmic medical devices that integrates research and development, production, and sales. Currently, it has developed over 20 products in two main business segments: "High-end ophthalmic medical devices produced in China" and "Collagen," and has obtained approval for five Class III and two Class II medical device registration certificates.
 

This time, the Century Healthcare Phase II project, with a construction area of 8,144 square meters and an investment of 100 million yuan, mainly produces various intraocular lenses, raw material blanks, rigid contact lenses, and collagen dressings. It is planned to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2023. After the Phase II project begins operations, the estimated annual output value will reach 300 million yuan. At that time, the total output value of Century Healthcare will reach 500 million yuan.
 

On May 9, Aier Eye Hospital held the 2022 Annual Performance Briefing. During this briefing, Aier Eye Hospital addressed topics of widespread investor interest, such as business growth potential, OK lens procurement, and international business expansion. In response to an investor’s question on when the "1+8+N" strategy would be fully realized, Chen Bang, Chairman of Aier Eye Hospital, stated that the company plans to implement the "1+8+N" strategic development plan within ten years. The plan includes building one world-class ophthalmology medical center, establishing eight national and regional ophthalmology medical centers, and creating N top-tier ophthalmology hospitals in provincial capitals and leading cities.
 

On the afternoon of May 9, PureVision Eye Hospital held a performance briefing. At the meeting, PureVision Eye Hospital stated that as of the end of the first quarter of 2023, the company owns 25 ophthalmic specialty hospitals and 3 ophthalmic clinics. Currently, Shenzhen PureVision Eye Hospital is also under planned construction. The hospital is being built according to the standards of a tertiary hospital and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024. The specific opening time will need to be adjusted based on the construction progress and the time required to obtain the necessary licenses.
 

In addition to project construction, there have been several recent developments in products by ophthalmic companies. On May 9, Xingqi Eye Drops announced that it had recently received the "Drug Registration Certificate" for its Travoprost Eye Drops issued by the National Medical Products Administration. It is reported that this product is an eye drop with Travoprost as the main ingredient. The approved Travoprost Eye Drops are single-dose products without preservatives, and their clinical indication is to reduce intraocular pressure in adult patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
 

In addition, Xingqi Eye Drops recently stated in a research report that the company's application for the marketing authorization of Atropine Sulfate Eye Drops in China has been accepted by the National Medical Products Administration.
 

On April 12, Grand Pharmaceutical Group announced that the Phase III clinical trial application for its hormone nanosuspension eye drop GPN00833 (APP13007), used for anti-inflammatory and analgesic purposes, has recently received tacit approval from the National Medical Products Administration. This marks an important R&D advancement for the group in the field of ophthalmic disease treatment.
 

GPN00833 is an anti-inflammatory and analgesic hormone nano-suspension eye drop. Its main active ingredient, clobetasol propionate, is a potent glucocorticoid with highly effective local anti-inflammatory activity and strong capillary constriction effects. Additionally, its unique nano-formulation technology effectively addresses the low bioavailability and safety risks caused by the poor water solubility of hormone products.
