June 1, according to Reuters and Bloomberg reports, Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche plans to sell its Genentech plant in Vacaville, California, which employs 800 people, or will close the plant before 2029. Roche confirmed the asset divestiture plan in a statement, saying that the decision is part of a strategy to "adjust its production capacity based on future pipeline needs." According to the statement, pipeline requirements call for the production of increasingly personalized medicines for specific populations rather than mass production of biologics. Roche stated that there will be no immediate impact on company operations or employees.
