On June 2, the official website of the National Medical Products Administration showed that the apremilast tablets developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical have been approved for marketing. This is the second generic apremilast product to be marketed in China.

Apremilast is an orally administered small molecule phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor originally developed by Amgen, which is specific to cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). The inhibition of PDE4 leads to increased intracellular levels of cAMP. This product is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for phototherapy or systemic therapy.

Psoriasis is a serious chronic inflammatory disease with a long course and prone to recurrence. The main symptoms are raised red scaly plaques on the skin, commonly occurring on the elbows, knees, or outer sides of the scalp, but can also appear on any part of the body. According to statistics, there are approximately 125 million psoriasis patients globally, with about 6.5 million patients in China.
