On June 26, according to foreign media reports, before the discount, the annual cost for patients of Ritlecitinib (Rituxitinib capsules), a new drug for alopecia areata recently approved by the FDA for Pfizer, is approximately $49,000, which is comparable to the price of Eli Lilly's Olumiant (Baricitinib).

Ritlecitinib is a once-daily oral specific JAK3/TEC inhibitor, which was just approved by the FDA last week for the treatment of alopecia areata in adolescents aged 12 years and older and adults. The product has high selectivity for members of the TEC kinase family and Janus kinase 3 (JAK3), blocking signaling molecules and immune cell activity that lead to alopecia areata, thereby inhibiting the immune system from attacking hair follicle cells to achieve therapeutic purposes. Compared with first-generation pan-JAK inhibitors, Ritlecitinib has an advantage in reducing toxicity. (See: )

Baricitinib is an oral JAK inhibitor taken once daily. It received FDA approval in June of last year for the treatment of severe alopecia areata in adults. Prior to this, the product had already been launched in over 75 countries, including China, the United States, and the European Union, for the treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in adults. It has also been approved in more than 40 countries, including the European Union and Japan, for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in adults, and in several countries, including the United States, Japan, and Switzerland, for the treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
