2023The year marks the integration and launch of Illumina's industry-leadingDRAGENThe Fifth Anniversary of the Software

San Diego, California, USAJuly 12, 2023PR Newswire -- July 11, 2023, Illumina (NASDAQ: ILMN), a global leader in genomics and chip technology, announced the launch of the latest version of DRAGEN™ software for analyzing next-generation sequencing data. DRAGEN 4.2 combines its award-winning accuracy with its highly acclaimed flexibility and scalability to enable efficient workflows and derive meaningful insights from genomic data.

Rami Mehio, Vice President of Software and Informatics at Illumina, stated: "DRAGEN 4.2 will further enhance the accuracy and comprehensiveness of secondary analysis. On the fifth anniversary of DRAGEN joining Illumina, we are witnessing the rapid adoption of genomics in clinical, precision medicine, and research fields. DRAGEN’s ability to execute high-quality, fast, precise, and comprehensive NGS analysis workflows makes it an ideal choice for supporting healthcare and research. We remain committed to continuously and comprehensively improving the detection and interpretation of whole-genome variants, providing support for clinicians and researchers in understanding human health."

DRAGEN v4.2 improves the identification of causative variants in genetic diseases, drug discovery, and analysis pipelines related to population genomics, specifically including:

In the latest feature, the brand-new targeted detection program can further enhance the ability to treat cardiovascular diseases and identify blood types. Fritz Sedlazeck from the Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, an early partner of DRAGEN 4.2, noticed this potential.

Sedlazeck stated: "DRAGEN 4.2 is a significant leap forward in genomic analysis. In addition to SNV detection, this software can also detect various types of variants, promoting comprehensive analysis of genomic samples. These new features include new approaches for treating cardiovascular diseases, such as detection procedures for LP(a). Research on this gene has been ongoing for over forty years, and these capabilities provide us with deeper insights. Now, we can achieve new discoveries through this reliable tool."

Lipoprotein(a), or LP(a), is an emerging potential risk factor with clinical significance associated with cardiovascular disease. Targeting the detection of genetic variants related to high levels of LP(a) can further advance clinical research and contribute to the development of detection and treatment methods.

Before this version was released, DRAGEN 4.1 had been integrated intoNovaSeq X SeriesIn the sequencing platform, this series is Illumina's latest and the most powerful sequencer in the company’s product family history.
