On August 29, BridGene Biosciences announced the achievement of a significant preclinical milestone in its collaboration with Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited. In this milestone, BridGene successfully accomplished one of the primary objectives of the collaboration: the discovery of novel neurodegenerative disease targets using its proprietary IMTAC™ (Isotope-labeled Affinity Characterization) chemoproteomics platform. Upon reaching this milestone, BridGene will receive an undisclosed milestone payment.
"This year, BridGene achieved two key milestones in its collaboration with Takeda (which began in 2021). Achieving these milestones fully demonstrates the capabilities of BridGene's IMTAC platform," said Dr. Ping Cao, Co-founder and CEO of BridGene Biosciences. "Throughout the collaboration, BridGene and Takeda have built a strong trust and highly efficient partnership. Looking ahead, we will further explore the limitless possibilities offered by the IMTAC platform in pursuit of innovative therapeutic solutions."
BridGene's drug discovery and development approach comprises two key components: utilizing covalent small molecules to target traditionally undruggable targets, and applying a chemoproteomics technology platform to study the interactions between small molecules and proteins in living cells. By effectively identifying the targets with which small molecule candidates interact inside living cells, as well as determining the critical targets driving disease onset and progression (phenotypes), BridGene can accelerate the drug discovery process and uncover new therapeutic approaches.
In March 2023, BridGene Biosciences announced the achievement of its first significant preclinical milestone in its collaboration with Takeda (initiated in 2021), which aims to co-develop up to five new drug discovery programs using the IMTAC™ platform.
About BridGene Biosciences
BridGene Biosciences, Inc. is a biotechnology company dedicated to discovering and developing innovative small-molecule drugs targeting "undruggable" targets, providing new approaches for disease treatment. Utilizing its proprietary chemoproteomics platform IMTAC™, BridGene is able to screen small-molecule ligands against all proteins in living cells, identifying drug candidates for high-value "undruggable" targets. BridGene has also built a proprietary and diverse covalent small-molecule library with drug-like properties. The company’s ultimate goal is to overcome the bottleneck of small-molecule drug screening and develop innovative drugs for "undruggable" targets. The uniqueness of BridGene's technology lies in its ability to perform whole-proteome screening for both covalent and non-covalent small molecules, covalently target different amino acids, and combine phenotypic screening to discover new targets and mechanisms that impact diseases. The company is advancing an innovative drug pipeline across multiple disease areas.
