On September 1, Ipsen announced that Howard Mayer, the former Executive Vice President and Head of R&D, has stepped down, and Christelle Huguet will take over his position.

Christelle Huguet will join the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and report directly to Ipsen CEO David Loew. Since joining Ipsen in May 2020 as Senior Vice President, Research, External Innovation, and Early Development (REED), she has built a lean and dynamic global REED team, providing support for Ipsen’s oncology, rare diseases, and neuroscience fields from target research to clinical development.

Christelle Huguet has over 25 years of biotechnology and industry experience in drug discovery and development, responsible for advancing projects from the early stages of drug discovery through identification and progressing small molecules and biologics to Phase IIb clinical trials. Before joining Ipsen, Christelle Huguet served as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at X-Chem Inc and ZebiAI Therapeutics, where she built an internal oncology project portfolio and applied advanced machine learning to DNA-encoded library data analysis. Prior to X-Chem, she was Head of Internal Research at Alexion, focusing on the rare disease space. Earlier in her career, Christelle Huguet spent 18 years at Pfizer, holding various senior leadership roles in research and preclinical development, including CSO for Urogenital diseases, Global Head of PK, PD, and Metabolism, and CSO for Inflammation and Immunology.

Christelle Huguet

Ipsen CEO David Loew said, "I am delighted that Christelle Huguet will be joining Ipsen's executive leadership team as we continue to work towards achieving our strategic roadmap. Christelle Huguet’s extensive experience in drug discovery and development is crucial for advancing our pipeline and driving the positive evolution of external innovation. This experience, combined with her passion for talent development and her leadership style, will ensure a smooth transition as she steps into her new role."

I would also like to thank Howard Mayer for his significant contributions to Ipsen. Over the past four years, he has built a strong R&D leadership team, led an in-depth review of the pipeline, prioritized disease areas, and identified strategic plans and opportunities. In recent years, Howard Mayer has also played a crucial role in Ipsen's business development and M&A activities, particularly in the acquisition and integration of Epizyme and Albireo. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been committed to bringing much-needed innovations to patients.
