Among them, Sanofi has signed a contract to build a new sterile isolator filling production line for "Lantus," and will upgrade the existing two assembly and packaging production lines, thereby achieving the capability to handle the entire process from filling to assembly and packaging of "Lantus."
Soliqua, the insulin glargine and lixisenatide injection (I), (II), is suitable for adult patients with type 2 diabetes who have poor blood sugar control, improving glycemic control. The drug was approved on January 12 this year and completed the entire production and market launch process around May, bringing more treatment options to diabetes patients in China.
The number of diabetes patients in China is as high as 140 million, representing a huge unmet health demand. It is reported that Sanofi, with its century-long accumulation in the diabetes field, continues to seek and explore treatment options suitable for Chinese patients, actively responding to national policies by participating in bulk procurement, accelerating the introduction of innovative solutions, and continuously increasing investment in the diabetes sector. Bayer Beijing Imaging Diagnostics Medical Device Localization Project Officially Launched in December 2022. On September 5 this year, it was announced that the imaging diagnostics medical device plant at Bayer Prescription Pharmaceuticals Beijing Supply Center has been completed, indicating that localized production in China is about to be realized. It is reported that the four products manufactured in the new plant are high-pressure injection systems for imaging diagnostics, which will be used to improve CT contrast diagnostics in various scenarios.
Bayer Pharmaceuticals stated that it will continue to be based in Yizhuang, Beijing, utilizing world-class advanced production technologies combined with digital solutions to provide more Chinese patients with Bayer's high-quality products.
In addition, a number of projects from Chinese pharmaceutical companies were signed on the same day. For example, Zhengda Innovative Medicine, under Sino Biopharm, will establish the global innovation platform X-LAB Beijing project to advance the in-depth development, regulatory submission, market launch, and subsequent commercialization of new product pipelines, achieving the industrialization of innovative products. Sinocelltech will expand its filling and outer packaging capacity for COVID-19 vaccines and develop a biopharmaceutical industrialization base project. Yooking Pharmaceutical will build new production lines for peptide and nucleic acid drugs, further promoting multiple growth curves for these product categories.
Biopharmaceuticals have become an important strategic high ground in the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation. With the support of favorable national policies, the industry scale continues to expand. According to report data, it is expected that by 2030, the scale of China's health industry will reach 20 trillion yuan, of which the potential of the biopharmaceutical industry is expected to reach 8 trillion yuan, indicating a huge market space.
Beijing's biomedical industry has a strong foundation, with remarkable innovation capabilities and abundant clinical resources, attracting a large number of domestic and international companies to settle in for mutual benefit and joint progress. Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) has become a primary platform for Beijing’s initiative to build itself into an international center for scientific and technological innovation, known as the "Three Cities and One Area." According to the "Action Plan for Accelerating the Construction of a 'New Drug Intelligent Manufacturing' Industry High Ground (2023-2025)" and supporting policies released by BDA on February 14. The development zone will focus on breakthroughs in cutting-edge technology innovation, aiming to reach a scale of 200 billion yuan for the biomedical and health industry by 2025.
