Daiichi Sankyo Submits Application for Approval of XBB.1.5-Targeting COVID-19 Vaccine in Japan

Japanese pharmaceutical giant Daiichi Sankyo Company Limited recently announced that it applied to Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on September 7 for approval to manufacture and sell a vaccine targeting the XBB.1.5 subvariant strain of the coronavirus. The vaccine is intended for booster shots and is applicable to individuals aged 12 and above. If approved, this would be Japan’s first domestically produced vaccine targeting XBB.
