6. If you have gout, should you exercise more?
Patients with acute gout attacks are not advised to exercise. Patients in the non-acute phase (chronic phase/intermittent phase) should exercise moderately. After intense or excessive exercise, uric acid accumulates in the body, which can easily lead to hyperuricemia. This condition is not conducive to improving the patient's gout condition and may even trigger an attack of gouty arthritis. Gout patients should exercise moderately; elderly patients or those with accompanying conditions such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, or impaired liver/kidney function should avoid intense exercise and prolonged physical exertion.
