
Minimally Invasive Interventional Device Developer
In September 2023, the final of the 6th (2023) China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held in Suzhou. After fierce competition, the project "DragonFly Transcatheter Mitral Valve Clip System" by Valgen Medtech Co., Ltd. ("Valgen Medtech") won the second prize in the final for high-value medical consumables.
A Total of 926 Projects Participated in This Competition. Since the Start of the Competition in April 2023, After Multiple Rounds of Selection, a Total of 22 Projects Fiercely Competed in the Final of High-Value Medical Consumables Held on September 12. The Competition Was Judged by Leaders from Relevant Ministries, Academicians, Authoritative Experts in the Industry, and Well-Known Experts in Registration, Evaluation, and Investment. The Projects Were Evaluated Based on Innovation, Clinical Value, Social Value, Team Situation, and Other Dimensions. Valgen Medtech's DragonFly Transcatheter Mitral Valve Clip System Ultimately Won the Second Prize with an Excellent Third-Place Score.


The DragonFly Transcatheter Mitral Valve Clip System is Valgen Medtech's flagship product. As the first domestically produced transcatheter mitral valve clip to enter clinical application and registration clinical research in China, it has successfully been implanted and treated nearly 300 patients in China, demonstrating significant clinical value. In March 2021, the product passed through the "Special Review Procedure for Innovative Medical Devices," entering the National Medical Products Administration’s innovation product "green channel." In 2022, it received support from the "14th Five-Year Plan" National Key Research and Development Program for diagnosis and treatment equipment and biomaterials under the project titled "Research and Development of Transcatheter Mitral Valve Clip System."
DragonFly, developed to address multiple clinical pain points, features several unique innovative designs: It effectively reduces regurgitation, decreases leaflet tension, adjusts transvalvular pressure gradients, and ensures a more stable grip through its central blocking mesh and stepless self-locking structure, thereby reducing the incidence of postoperative adverse events. The unique design of the delivery system offers intuitive and straightforward operation, enabling faster intraoperative positioning, significantly cutting down pre- and intraoperative procedural steps, and saving operation time. The product is suitable for various types of lesions, benefiting a wide range of patients. The technical solution of the product has independent intellectual property rights and is protected by over a hundred patents globally.
Earlier, the European Interventional Cardiology Conference (EuroPCR) announced the 12-month follow-up results of the DRAGONFLY-DMR confirmatory clinical trial. This study recruited and treated 120 patients across 27 centers in China. All enrolled subjects had MR regurgitation >2+, with 73.3% of patients having MR grade >4+ and 65.9% of subjects classified as NYHA functional class III/IV. Additionally, 55.8% of patients presented with P2 prolapse, while 13.3% had A2 prolapse. The immediate postoperative procedural success rate and device implantation success rate were both 99.2%. The treatment success rate at 12 months post-surgery was 87.5% (95% confidence interval: 80.1%, 92.3%). The 12-month follow-up results showed significant improvements in cardiac function and quality of life for the patients. With its remarkable therapeutic outcomes, the trial successfully achieved its pre-specified primary efficacy endpoint, providing crucial evidence for the treatment options of patients with degenerative mitral regurgitation.
