On September 18, according to foreign media fierce biotech reports, GSK's R&D department is undergoing a reshuffle following the departure of John Lepore, Senior Vice President and Head of R&D.

After John Lepore's departure, GSK divided its R&D department into three teams more closely aligned with the core therapeutic divisions: Respiratory and Immunology, Vaccines and Infectious Diseases, and Oncology. Senior Vice President and Global Head of Vaccines, Phil Dormitzer, will lead the Vaccines and Infectious Diseases R&D team; Senior Vice President and Global Head of Oncology Development, Hesham Abdullah, will lead the Oncology R&D team; and Kaivan Khavandi, newly joined GSK, will lead the reorganized Respiratory Immunology team.

A GSK spokesperson stated that as investment in R&D increases, the company’s top priority is to accelerate the delivery of its product pipeline. These three teams will focus on initial discovery and early clinical research, and if a project reaches Phase II clinical trials, it will be handed over to an independent internal team for further development.
