Today (September 21) is World Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Day. According to a report by the International Alzheimer's Disease Association, there is one new AD patient globally every 3 seconds. As a major AD country, China currently has more than 10 million AD patients, and it is estimated that by 2030, the number of AD patients in China will increase to 22.2 million.
Faced with such a huge public health challenge, global pharmaceutical companies are sparing no effort in the research and development of new drugs for AD.
On July 7, 2023, Biogen/Eisai's Lecanemab was officially granted full approval after transitioning from accelerated approval. This marks the first new Alzheimer's disease (AD) drug to receive full FDA approval in 20 years.
On July 17, 2023, Eli Lilly announced the full release of Donanemab Phase 3 data, showing a 60% reduction in cognitive decline in early-stage patients, and has submitted a new drug application to the FDA.
Good news also came from pharmaceutical companies in China. On September 20, Tonghua Golden-Horse Pharmaceutical Industry Co., Ltd. announced that the Phase III clinical trial of its Class 1 new drug, Amber Octahydroaminoacridine Tablet, for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease, was successful.
Since Tonghua Golden-Horse announced the preparatory meeting for unblinding its Phase III clinical trial in August, its stock price has continuously soared with multiple涨停s, and now the stock price has nearly tripled, turning Golden-Horse into a dark horse.

Amber OctahydroAminacrine Tablets are a dual-target inhibitor that can simultaneously inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE).
Previously, the approved AD drugs on the market were mostlyAChE Single-Target Inhibitor, Pfizer's Tacrine (launched in 1993, later discontinued due to...Adverse reactions withdrawal), Eisai's Donepezil (1996), Novartis' Rivastigmine (2000), Johnson & Johnson's Galantamine (2001).
In addition to Tonghua Golden-Horse Pharmaceutical Industry Co., Ltd., numerous players in China, including Hengrui (SHR-1707), Magpie Pharmaceuticals (MN-08), ZK BioPharmaceuticals (05061), Enlizion (EI-1071), Rixin Pharmaceuticals (RX01), BrAD-R13 by Boruijian Pharmaceuticals, Ningdan New Drug (Y-1), and Denovo Biopharma (DB105), have gathered to jointly advance the research and development of new Alzheimer's disease (AD) drugs. The hope is to benefit patients as soon as possible and address this significant unmet clinical need.
