Recently, Sanofi and Teva Pharmaceuticals announced an agreement worth up to approximately $1 billion.Both will jointly develop and commercialize the tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-like ligand 1A (TL1A) targeted therapy TEV’574. This investigational therapy is currently in Phase 2b clinical trials for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease, two types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Long-term inflammation leads to damage in the GI tract. The common symptoms of both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease include persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weight loss. It is estimated that there are approximately 10 million IBD patients globally.
TEV’574 is an investigational, novel TL1A-targeted therapy., is being developed for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The targeting effect of TL1A has been confirmed in human studies and shows potential relevance in various autoimmune indications.

Under the terms of the agreement, Teva will receive an upfront payment of €469 million (approximately $500 million) and up to €940 million (approximately $1 billion) in development and commercialization milestone payments.Sanofi to Lead Development of Phase 3 Program for the Therapy. Teva to Head Commercialization in Europe, Israel, and Selected Other Countries; Sanofi to Spearhead Commercialization in North America, Japan, Asia, and Rest of the World. This collaboration fully leverages the innovative R&D and commercial expertise of both companies and supports Sanofi’s immunology strategy of exploring novel mechanisms of action for chronic inflammatory diseases.
