# Biosense Webster Publishes Clinical Data

The study, funded by a California-based company, examined the risk of heart failure incidence in patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib). It compared outcomes following catheter ablation versus the use of antiarrhythmic drugs (AAD). By reviewing catheter claims data, the results showed a lower risk of heart failure with catheter ablation compared to AAD alone.

Biosense Webster stated that multiple clinical studies have highlighted catheter ablation as a safe and superior alternative to AAD when performed correctly. However, the company noted that less than 5% of eligible individuals undergo this procedure.

The study used the 2014-2022 Optum Clinformatics database to identify adult patients with AFib who had previously been treated with AAD. The patients were divided into two groups: those treated with catheter ablation and those treated with AAD. Propensity score matching was applied to balance sociodemographic and clinical covariates. Each cohort included 9,246 patients.

Biosense Webster stated,The study results show that, compared with AAD, the risk of heart failure in patients using catheter ablation was reduced by 57%.And its lower risk outcomes were consistent across all assessed racial/ethnic and gender categories.
