Introduction to the Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology (AACO)
The Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology (AACO) was established in Egypt in 1958.A large ophthalmological academic organization spanning Asia and Africa. The standing body of the Afro-Asian Ophthalmological Society is chaired by Professor Wu Yuezhen (China) as President, with theProf. M Nabih (Egypt), Prof. R Azad (India), and Secretary General Prof. T Mamoun (Egypt), among others, are included.Professor Nagpal (India) serves as the Honorary Chairman, with the headquarters established in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. It includes an Academic Committee and an Asian Office.
The Asian Office is located in Guangzhou, China, and Professor Haotian Lin, Director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, serves concurrently as the Director of the Asian Office.For more than 60 years, the Afro-Asian Ophthalmological Society has successively held events in Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey, Lebanon, Japan, India, and Pakistan.Tanzania, Indonesia, China and other countries have held the 20th Ophthalmology Congress. Through extensive academic exchanges, they jointly promote the development of ophthalmology in Asian and African countries.
