Lilly Reports Complete Phase 3 SURMOUNT-3 Results: Tirzepatide Achieves 26.6% Average Weight Loss in Adults with Obesity or Overweight Without Type 2 Diabetes

Eastern Time, October 15, 2023, Eli Lilly and Company announcedSURMOUNT-3（NCT04657016）CompletePhase III clinical trial results, and willIt was published in the journals *Nature Medicine* and *ObesityWeek*.

SURMOUNT-3 aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tirzepatide in overweight or obese adult patients without type 2 diabetes who have undergone 12 weeks of lifestyle intervention, with the initial disclosure date on July 27, 2023.

Among 972 subjects, a total of579 Subjects Proceed to the Next Stage of the StudyFigure 1 is the SURMOUNT-3 CONSORT flowchart.

Compared with placebo,Tirzepatide demonstrated excellent weight loss effects (Figure 2).Patients treated with Tirzepatide experienced an average weight loss of 21.1%; at 84 weeks (72 + 12 weeks post-intervention).Patients treated with Tirzepatide experienced an average weight loss of 26.6%, while the placebo group had a total average weight loss of 3.8% over 84 weeks.

In terms of safety,TirzepatideThe overall safety profile in SURMOUNT-3 was similar to that reported in the previous SURMOUNT and SURPASS trials. The most commonly reported adverse events in SURMOUNT-3 were gastrointestinal-related, with severity typically being mild to moderate. Compared with placebo, takingTirzepatideThe most common events reported by subjects were nausea, diarrhea, constipation, COVID-19, and vomiting. Adverse events led to 10.5% of subjects discontinuing treatment.TirzepatideThe study treatment was discontinued by 2.1% of subjects taking the placebo.

Four studies on TirzepatideSURMOUNT Series StudiesSURMOUNT-1 and SURMOUNT-2 adopted a fixed dose, while SURMOUNT-3 and SURMOUNT-4 adopted the highest tolerated dose.
