The Karma System is a novel solution for treating degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis with stenosis in elderly patients. The system consists of high-performance polymer fixation devices used to stabilize the lumbar spine as an adjunct to fusion surgery. It is designed to engage with the strongest bony elements of the posterior lumbar region. Due to its polymeric structure, the system is radiolucent, except for the hybrid contrast agent, allowing Karma to be visualized radiographically. Additionally, the system does not interfere with postoperative imaging.
On the afternoon of October 19, medical doctors Pierce Nunley and Terrence Crowder will demonstrate "A Novel Posterior Cortical Pedicle Fixation Technique in the Aging Spine" live at the NASS Surgical Stadium Exhibition Hall. Attendees can learn about the benefits of this innovative solution for treating degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis with stenosis in the aging spine.

The Karma system can be surgically implanted through open or minimally invasive surgical techniques, and its small device profile offers advantages over larger metal posterior fixation devices.This system is part of Spinal Elements' MIS Ultra™ product suite, designed to address unintended consequences in spinal surgery.
Spinal Elements CEO Ron Lloyd stated that Karma represents an important milestone for the company in redefining spinal surgery technology, and he is delighted to share this latest technology at the NASS Annual Meeting. The new application of Karma in elderly spinal conditions reflects the company’s commitment to providing innovative solutions and technologies to improve patient outcomes in spinal surgery.
Clinical Relevance:
With stability comparable to that of the pedicle screw system, and less stress shielding in the anterior column;
Provides physiological load and stability, can be used to support LLIF, ALIF, and other posterior fusion surgeries, maintaining the integrity of the facet joints and lamina;
Circumferential fixation mainly relies on the cortical bone of the pedicle neck, lamina, and facet joints, providing a reliable option for patients with poor bone quality.

Patient-Centered Implants:
Metal-free implants can minimize radiographic artifacts and noise in postoperative MRI and CT;
Posterior fixation does not require the use of screws and rods;
Small implants minimize the possibility of postoperative perception and irritation caused by fixation devices;
The density of the implant is lower than that of the pedicle screw system.
