ShanghaiOctober 18, 2023PR Newswire -- On October 14, the 24th China Patent Awards Ceremony was grandly held in Dalian. The invention patent of Hansoh Pharma's Aumolertinib was awarded the "China Patent Gold Award." The China Patent Awards, established jointly by the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization, represent the highest honor in China’s intellectual property field. This is the second time that Hansoh Pharma has received this prestigious award.

Since its inception in 1989, the China Patent Awards has successfully held 24 sessions, primarily focusing on key industries and core technologies in critical fields. It highlights the "heavyweights" of the manufacturing sector, addresses "bottleneck" technological challenges, and represents the highest level of technology in the industry. This award is an important manifestation of China's achievements as a powerhouse in intellectual property rights.

A total of 29 inventions and utility model patents were awarded the China Patent Gold Award at this conference. The invention patent "EGFR Inhibitor and Its Preparation and Application" (Patent No.: ZL 201580045311.2) stood out from over 2,400 participating patents and was honored with the China Patent Gold Award, highlighting the social value of Almonertinib and the innovative strength of Hansoh Pharma.

Almonertinib: Small Molecule Meets Big Demand

Lung cancer is currently the most prevalent cancer in China, and there is an urgent clinical need for third-generation EGFR-targeted drugs. Through innovative research and development, the scientific team at Hansoh Pharma has designed a novel drug molecule, Almonertinib, which perfectly binds to the protein cavity of EGFR mutations, demonstrating high activity and enhancing efficacy. Its unique metabolic pathway eliminates the common off-target effects of similar drugs, improving safety and significantly reducing the incidence of rash and diarrhea. Additionally, it greatly enhances the brain penetration rate of Almonertinib, ensuring effective control of brain metastases, offering non-small cell lung cancer patients a globally leading treatment option.

As the first third-generation EGFR inhibitor in Asia and the second globally, Aumolertinib is used for the first-line treatment of EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), filling the gap for third-generation EGFR inhibitors in China and breaking the monopoly of imported drugs. Both approved indications have been included in the national medical insurance catalog, significantly reducing the burden of lung cancer on patients and society.

Intellectual Property: High-Value Patents Safeguard Full-Cycle Operations

Hansoh Pharma places high importance on intellectual property management. Its intellectual property management system was certified to national standards in 2015, and its key subsidiary, Hansoh Pharmaceutical, has been recognized as a national model enterprise for intellectual property for multiple consecutive years.

The company has deeply implemented the management standards for cultivating high-value patents, conducting comprehensive intellectual property (IP) planning throughout the entire R&D cycle and on a global scale for each innovative drug. Based on the outcomes generated at different R&D stages of innovative products, the patent management department carries out a series of patent arrangements targeting various technical topics such as drug compounds, pharmaceutical salts/polymorphs, drug formulations or manufacturing processes, and new medical uses. It also applies for diversified protection of core patents in many overseas countries. Currently, the award-winning patent for Aumolertinib has entered 13 countries and regions worldwide and has been granted authorization in key markets like China, the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

To date, Hansoh Pharma has received a total of 2 Gold Awards, 1 Silver Award, and 6 Excellence Awards in the China Patent Awards. The granting of the Gold Award for Aumolertinib's patent represents high recognition from the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization of the company’s technical innovation and patent capabilities.
