Its portfolio spans nine major therapeutic areas, including cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory, oncology, metabolism, renal, vaccines and antibodies, autoimmune diseases, and rare diseases. Meanwhile, AstraZeneca is accelerating the introduction of its global R&D pipeline into China. Building on its Innovation Center China and China New Drug Development Department, AstraZeneca’s Global R&D Center China was officially upgraded in 2021 to play a deeper role in global R&D. To date, AstraZeneca’s China product pipeline comprises over 180 projects, with 100% alignment with key global pipeline projects, while expanding into earlier-stage research.
Sanofi has been in the Chinese market for over 40 years, with more than 40 innovative drugs and vaccines launched in China. It aims to introduce 25 new drugs in China by 2025. Meanwhile, Sanofi is also accelerating the introduction of its R&D pipeline into China. As of July 2023, Sanofi globally has approximately 80 clinical R&D projects covering areas such as immunology and inflammation, oncology, neurology, rare diseases, rare blood disorders, and vaccines.
China is also one of the important markets for Novartis. According to data from Novartis China, since 1987, Novartis has had about 100 drugs and indications approved in China. The group has also publicly stated that it will increase its investment efforts in the future, planning to achieve over 90% of China's new drug and indication registration applications in synchronization with global standards within three years. In the next five years, Novartis is expected to have 40 innovative drugs approved in China.
Astellas Equally Values the Layout in Greater China, Leveraging the Continuous Improvement of China's Medical Innovation Business Environment and Favorable Policies to Actively Explore New Access Pathways. Currently, a Claudin18.2-targeted antibody drug in Astellas' new product pipeline has already participated in global multicenter clinical trials in China, achieving synchronized global development. It is reported that one of the key focuses of this pharmaceutical company is to accelerate R&D and include China in global multicenter clinical research projects to realize the synchronized R&D and launch of innovative drugs. At present, it has two products in the bladder cancer and gastric cancer fields participating in global multicenter clinical trials.
The active layout of major multinational pharmaceutical companies in China shows their confidence in the future development of China's biopharmaceutical industry. The industry believes that there are three main factors driving the continuous development of multinational pharmaceutical companies in China: the huge potential of the Chinese pharmaceutical market, the continuous improvement of the domestic pharmaceutical regulatory environment, and investor favor. It is expected that the advantages of the large scale and high-speed growth of China's biopharmaceutical market will not change in the future, and it will remain the fundamental factor attracting multinational biopharmaceutical companies to continue investing. As more and more multinational pharmaceutical companies introduce new drugs into China, it will also bring more treatment options to patients in China and improve the quality of life for patients.
