Roche Acquires Telavant for $7.25 Billion to Secure TL1A Antibody RVT-3101 for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

On October 23, 2023, Roche announced an agreement to acquire Telavant for a $7.1 billion upfront payment, securing the rights to the clinical-stage anti-TL1A antibody RVT-3101 in the United States and Japan.Roche will also pay $150 million in near-term milestone payments. Telavant was established last year by Roivant Sciences and Pfizer.

RVT-3101 is currently undergoing clinical research for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Earlier this year, Roivant announced that in the Phase IIb TUSCANY-2 study for ulcerative colitis, the drug demonstrated a higher clinical remission rate and endoscopic improvement compared to placebo. Meanwhile, in July, the interim TAHOE trial for patients with moderate to severe active Crohn's disease also commenced.

Currently, RVT-3101 has entered the Phase 3 clinical preparation stage, with first-in-class and best-in-treatment potential. Roche has also obtained the option for the p40/TL1A bispecific antibody, which is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials.
