Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Amgen, Inc.Bob BradwaySaid: "The CIIE demonstrates China's determination to persist in advancing high-level opening-up and sharing new opportunities for high-quality development with the world. The aging process of the population in China and even globally is accelerating, and the prevalence of severe diseases associated with aging, such as cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, and cancer, is also increasing. In response to the current state of China's aging population and the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, Amgen is committed to developing a product line that closely aligns with patient needs, focusing on four major disease areas: cardiovascular diseases, bone health, oncology, and inflammation.
"Rui Li Advancing, Advancing"5th Anniversary of Amgen's Commercialization in China: A Wealth of Achievements"
In China, the number of patients with cardiovascular diseases is approximately 330 million.[1]In 2019, Amgen launched its first innovative lipid-lowering product in China — Repatha.®(Evolocumab) is the first PCSK9 inhibitor approved for marketing in China. Currently, Repatha®Three indications have been approved in China.
Osteoporosis is a bone disease associated with aging. According to epidemiological data, it is estimated that the number of people with osteoporosis in China is approximately 90 million, of which about 70 million are women.[2]Although the incidence of osteoporosis in women is much higher than in men, the consequences of osteoporosis in men are often more severe. One in five men over the age of 50 will experience an osteoporotic fracture, with disability and mortality rates significantly higher than in female patients.[3]。
In 2020, Prolia® (denosumab 60mg) was approved for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fractures. This is the first anti-RANKL monoclonal antibody drug approved in China for the treatment of osteoporosis. Notably, this year's CIIE stage is also where Prolia®Perfect Debut with "New CIIE Identity" – Following Last Year’s Premiere at the CIIE, Prolia®Approved for a new indication in February this year, it is used to treat male osteoporosis with a high risk of fractures, benefiting a wider range of patients.
"2023 marks the fifth anniversary of Amgen's commercialization in China. Over the past five years, Amgen has accelerated its high-quality development in China. To date, Amgen has received approval for seven innovative therapies in China, and a total of five globally significant drugs have been included in the National Reimbursement Drug List (NRDL), accelerating service to Chinese patients."Ailing Xu, Vice President of Amgen and General Manager for China"Amgen is honored to participate in the CIIE for the second consecutive year, fully showcasing our scientific research strength and innovative achievements in chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and bone health. Through the platform of the CIIE, we aim to strengthen local cooperation in China and focus on addressing the significant unmet needs of patients."
Amgen at the CIIE Join Hands with All Parties to Actively Address Population Aging
On November 6, the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration and Amgen China will sign a strategic cooperation agreement at the Amgen booth during the CIIE. Both parties will leverage the policy advantages of special access and pilot programs in the Lecheng Pilot Zone to jointly accelerate the introduction of innovative products urgently needed in clinical settings, allowing patients to benefit from technological advancements and the dividends of pilot reforms.
The "2023 China Hyperlipidemia Diagnosis and Treatment Status and Disease Management Research Report," hosted by the *Physician Newspaper*, co-organized by Medlive, and supported by Amgen China, was officially released during this year’s CIIE. The report surveyed hundreds of cardiologists and neurologists across China, revealing that over 70% of ASCVD patients did not achieve the lipid-lowering target for extremely high-risk ASCVD patients as stipulated in the "2023 Chinese Lipid Management Guidelines" after lipid-lowering treatment; only 31% of ultra-high-risk patients reached the target. Additionally, reducing cardiovascular event risk and rapidly and effectively lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) are the key indicators most focused on by physicians.
Professor Yong Huo, Department of Cardiology, Peking University First HospitalIt was pointed out: "In clinical practice, the higher the risk level of cardiovascular disease in patients, the more we recommend initiating intensive lipid-lowering therapy as early as possible. Long-term stable control of LDL-C levels can effectively delay the progression of atherosclerotic plaques. In recent years, newly developed biologics have adopted entirely new mechanisms, with lipid-lowering effects stronger than statins, effectively reducing LDL-C levels and lowering the risk of cardiovascular events. This is particularly significant for ultra-high-risk and very high-risk ASCVD populations. If the promotion of innovative drug combination therapies can be further expanded at the grassroots level in China, it will substantially reduce the medical burden of cardiovascular diseases in the country."[4]。"
Amgen Continues to Focus on the Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Hyperlipidemia Patients in China and Unmet Needs. On November 6, the Global Alliance for Patient Access (GAfPA) and Health Systems Research will release "Unmet Needs and Recommendations for Lipid Management in ASCVD Patients - A Report Based on Surveys of Patients and Experts" at the Amgen booth. The report focuses on clinical and patient management pathways for lipid management, jointly advocating the importance of lipid management and enhancing patients' awareness of self-health management.
For the second consecutive year, returning to the CIIE appointment,Aileen Xu, Vice President of Amgen and General Manager for ChinaAmgen stated: "Amgen will continue to make good use of the CIIE as a platform, collaborate with various partners, and advocate for the establishment of a ‘predict and prevent’ healthcare ecosystem. In the future, we hope to introduce more globally significant products to China and continuously improve the accessibility of innovative drugs, helping more people achieve ‘high-quality healthy aging’ and accelerating benefits for more patients in China."
