On November 5, the 6th China International Import Expo (hereinafter referred to as "CIIE") with the theme of "New Era, Shared Future" grandly opened in Shanghai.

As one of the six major exhibition areas of the CIIE, the Medical Devices and Healthcare Products Exhibition Area focuses on the theme of "Health, Sharing a Better Life." The exhibition area, number of participating enterprises, number of Fortune 500 and industry-leading enterprises, and the number of countries represented all exceed those of the previous edition. China's increasingly open pharmaceuticals industry ecosystem attracts both new and returning friends from the medical devices and healthcare展区 to gather in Shanghai every early November for the CIIE盛会.

It is reported that this year's medical device and healthcare exhibition area has attracted 231 exhibitors, and will host 32 new product release events, covering all four thematic sections: medical devices, pharmaceuticals, health products, and senior care.

As an old friend of the CIIE, this year marks Pfizer's fifth consecutive participation in the CIIE. Pfizer's theme for this year's exhibition is "Partnering for a Healthy China," demonstrating Pfizer’s unwavering commitment of "In China, For China."

Pfizer's 1,000-square-meter booth is one of the largest booths in the medical device and healthcare exhibition area, creating a visually striking and tech-savvy booth presence.

At this year's CIIE, Pfizer showcased over 30 innovative products covering six therapeutic areas: oncology, vaccines, anti-infectives, inflammation and immunology, rare diseases, and migraine. Among them, six innovative products are making their "China debut," including an oral medication and a nasal spray for migraine. The former has already been piloted in Boao Lecheng, Hainan, and the Greater Bay Area. Leflunomide®, recently approved for the treatment of alopecia areata, was also displayed during this year’s CIIE.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of AstraZeneca's entry into China. As a six-time "CIIE old friend," AstraZeneca's main booth maintains last year’s scale of 1,000 square meters, with the theme “Thirty, Leaping Forward for the Long Haul.” Leveraging the CIIE platform, AstraZeneca deepens cooperation and exchanges with partners from all sectors, promotes “Innovation in China” to reach the world, and jointly supports high-quality and sustainable development in China, fulfilling its long-term commitment of “Rooted in China, Serving China, Benefiting the World.”

This year, a "Wall of Innovative Medicines" at the exhibition booth has drawn considerable attention. It highlights AstraZeneca's continuous focus on critical disease areas such as oncology, cardiovascular, metabolic, renal, respiratory, gastrointestinal, rare diseases, vaccines and antibodies, and autoimmune diseases since entering China in 1993. The wall showcases over 40 innovative drugs introduced into China, including two global innovations making their debut at the CIIE: Andasemt (Dapagliflozin and Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets) and Koselugo (Selumetinib Sulfate Capsules). This comprehensive display demonstrates AstraZeneca's fruitful achievements in advancing innovation and R&D in China.

As one of the largest exhibitors in the medical device and healthcare展区, Roche attended the CIIE for the sixth time, with the theme "Innovate Together, Lead the Future." Roche showcased a comprehensive portfolio of nearly 30 products that are already on the market or about to be launched, along with innovative solutions covering key disease areas such as hematological oncology, breast cancer, ophthalmology, and neuroscience.

This year, Roche has unveiled six groundbreaking global innovative products that are set to launch in China. These products cover major disease areas such as hematological oncology, breast cancer, ophthalmology, and neuroscience. Among them, the bispecific antibody Glofitamab, which targets CD20/CD3, represents a new generation of ready-to-use immunotherapy and is expected to further enhance the possibility of curing relapsed or refractory lymphoma. Crovalimab, an innovative drug for treating Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH), was granted Breakthrough Therapy designation and last year received Priority Review status from the National Medical Products Administration. It is expected to become the first innovative drug in the industry to be launched in China ahead of Europe and the United States, marking a China-first launch and filling the treatment gap for PNH patients in China.

Next year, Roche Pharmaceuticals will celebrate its 30th anniversary in China. As a "full-time participant" actively attending the exhibition for six consecutive years, this year, Sanofi's booth features the theme "Chasing Scientific Miracles, Revitalizing Life's Brilliance," presented in the form of a "Miracle Lab." Utilizing technologies such as holographic projection, it offers audiences an ultimate immersive experience.

Sanofi's booth showcased the latest advancements in the company’s extensive and diverse R&D pipeline (with approximately 80 clinical development projects as of July 2023) and highlighted several transformative innovations in the field of immunology, such as: Beyfortus®, the world’s first long-acting monoclonal antibody for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in all infants; Tzield™, the world’s first and only therapy to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes, which will also make a remarkable appearance. Additionally, an innovative treatment for a rare disease will be presented: Nexviazyme®, a next-generation enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) for Pompe disease.

Drive Change, Healthy China

This year marks the centennial anniversary of Novo Nordisk. Standing at the starting point of a new century, Novo Nordisk, as a "six-time veteran" of the CIIE, continues its exhibition theme of "Driving Change, Healthy China," bringing globally leading innovative products and healthcare solutions to the grand event once again.

At this year's CIIE, Novo Nordisk showcased three significant innovative achievements, including the clinical research literature for Icodec, the world’s first once-weekly basal insulin, which submitted its marketing application in April this year. This new drug marks an innovative achievement by Novo Nordisk that completed clinical trials and filed for new drug marketing authorization simultaneously in China, the EU, and the United States for the first time.

During the six years of participating in the CIIE, Novo Nordisk has increased its investment in China six times, upgrading the layout of the entire industrial chain. In 2022, Novo Nordisk announced at the fifth CIIE the construction of a modern warehousing center in Pudong. This September, the project officially started and is currently under construction. At present, Novo Nordisk has formed a "dual centers, three engines" layout in China, driving its business in China into a new phase.

As one of the first multinational pharmaceutical companies to sign up for the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE), this year marks Novartis' sixth consecutive year participating in the CIIE.

At this year's CIIE, Novartis showcased eight key products or potential therapies, including those already launched in China such as Lekewei®, Entresto®, Cosentyx®, and Fareston®. Additionally, four products are being actively introduced to the Chinese market: Pelacarsen, which is expected to become the world’s first effective lipoprotein(a)-lowering drug; Remibrutinib, which could be the world’s first oral BTK inhibitor for chronic spontaneous urticaria; Iptacopan, the world’s first small-molecule complement factor B inhibitor; and 177LU-PSMA-617, the world’s first PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy.

This year marks the fifth time Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) has attended the CIIE, where its 500-square-meter booth will fully showcase the company’s new achievements in accelerating innovation in pipeline R&D, digitalization, and green low-carbon initiatives in China, reflecting the theme of "Innovating for the Health of Humans and Animals."

At this year's CIIE, Boehringer Ingelheim unveiled several groundbreaking innovative products for the first time globally and in Asia. The most notable among them is the "China Key"重磅新品. The "China Key" (China Key) strategy aims to fully integrate China into Boehringer Ingelheim's global early clinical development programs, accelerating the simultaneous launch of innovative drugs in China and globally. These include survodutide therapy (GCG/GLP-1 dual receptor agonist) for overweight or obese populations, a novel phosphodiesterase 4B (PDE4B) selective inhibitor that significantly delays idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a new investigational therapy for cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia called iclepertin (GlyT1i), and brigimadlin, an MDM2-p53 antagonist in development for cancer treatment.

This year marks the second year Teva has participated in the CIIE, with the theme "Linking Multiple Parties, Innovating for Life, Benefiting China." Teva is showcasing a wide range of star products covering multiple fields and further strengthening its cooperation in China by partnering with several local partners. Deeply implementing the "In China, For China" strategy, Teva is writing a new chapter in healthcare through open innovation.

Teva's booth design this year features a DNA helix chain structure in an upward posture, demonstrating its firm confidence in continuously investing in the Chinese market. Teva is presenting an innovative migraine treatment drug for the first time in China and introducing the classic diaper rash cream Sudocrem from Ireland, which is also Teva's first consumer health product launched in China. In addition, three star products – Copaxone®, Austedo®, and Bendeka® – will also "return" to the CIIE stage.

This year marks MSD's fifth appearance at the CIIE. As a globally leading biopharmaceutical company, MSD will showcase its innovative drugs, vaccine products, and a rich future pipeline across three exhibition areas, comprehensively displaying innovative healthcare solutions that cover the entire life cycle.

At the same time, more than ten collaborative project discussion forums and other events will be held, working together with multiple partners to focus on building China's medical ecosystem and helping to achieve the grand goal of "Healthy China 2030."

Over the past six years, Medtronic, a "long-time friend of CIIE," has brought nearly 300 innovative products and therapies, including nearly 50 products for their debut. Several of these innovative products and therapies have transformed from "exhibits" into "commercial products," quickly entering the Chinese market.

This year, Medtronic will create eight themed exhibition areas with the theme "Life Made Extraordinary Through Technology," showcasing more than 60 innovative exhibits. It will also release, for the first time at the CIIE, an AI-driven orthopedic and neurosurgical ecosystem, comprehensively displaying Medtronic's revolutionary achievements in applying technological innovation to the medical field.

In addition, the Pulse Select™ Pulsed Field Ablation System, Heli-FX™ EndoAnchor™ System, Concerto Detachable Coils, SimuForm™ Semi-Rigid Shaping Ring, PillCam™ Patency Capsule, and Micra VR2 and Micra AV2 leadless transcatheter pacemakers also made their debut at the 6th China International Import Expo.
