Daily Diabetes Management is Cumbersome, Digital Empowerment for Smart Blood Sugar Control
China has become the country with the largest number of people with diabetes in the world, among which, only 32.9% of people with diabetes receive treatment and only 16.5% have achieved the blood glucose control target.[i], Diabetes and its complications pose a serious threat to people's health. Studies have shown that the self-management level of patients with diabetes is positively correlated with their quality of life. Good self-management can stabilize blood glucose and delay the occurrence and development of chronic complications.
Blood glucose monitoring and medication tracking are crucial components of self-management and treatment for diabetes patients. In real life, due to frequent medication use and cumbersome record-keeping, patients often struggle to maintain long-term self-monitoring. This may lead to missed doses, poor adherence, significant blood glucose fluctuations, and suboptimal control, ultimately affecting the quality of life for individuals with diabetes.
The unmet medical needs of patients are driving the continuous upgrading of chronic disease management devices and equipment, with digital empowerment enabling smarter and more convenient blood sugar control for patients. For example, the NovoPen showcased for the first time at the Fifth CIIE.®6 is China's first smart insulin pen that can connect and transmit data. It can automatically record the patient's insulin injection dose and time, and upload it to a mobile phone via NFC technology with a "tap," helping patients record medication data and reduce missed injections.
NovoCareAPPRelease, Smart Connectivity Simplifies Diabetes Management
Novo Nordisk, starting from the daily management needs of patients, has independently developed a one-stop intelligent diabetes self-management solution — the NovoCare APP — with digital technology and smart devices at its core. Integrating cutting-edge technology, smart devices, health data, and professional knowledge, it allows patients to effortlessly enjoy health management services in their home lives.
The NovoCare APP is an application that can simultaneously connect to Novo Nordisk insulin pens (NovoPen).®6), Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and multi-brand Blood Glucose Meter (BGM), as well as a patient service platform with reserved connectivity for other wearable devices. It provides comprehensive compliance management from five key perspectives: medication adherence, blood glucose monitoring adherence, dietary adherence, exercise adherence, and educational adherence, while offering intuitive and dynamic visual analysis reports to help patients easily manage their blood glucose at home.

The interface of the NovoCare APP is simple and clear, and the report can present multiple data including patient medication, blood glucose, diet, and exercise.
The NovoCare app has also become a co-creation platform for industry partners, enabling interconnectivity and jointly building a health service ecosystem. By automatically uploading synchronized data and input records, and integrating medication, blood glucose, diet, and exercise data into a single display screen, it helps diabetes patients better understand the personalized characteristics of their blood glucose fluctuations, simplifies long-term management, thereby enhancing patient compliance, improving blood glucose control, and increasing quality of life, making glucose management smarter and easier.
Digital Dual-Core Solution Leads to New Breakthroughs in Diabetes Management
As a leader in the field of diabetes treatment, Novo Nordisk is committed to "driving change and defeating diabetes and other serious chronic diseases together." Its innovative efforts go "beyond just medicine" — the NovoCare APP and the NovoCare Mini Program, launched in 2021, jointly form Novo Nordisk's digital "dual-core" solution, meeting the health management needs of different types of patients.
The NovoCare Mini Program mainly provides lightweight patient management, meeting the needs of patient education and management without hardware support, and has served nearly 400,000 patients to date. Novo Nordisk's AI Q&A bot, "Xiao Nuo Teacher," has also been integrated into the program, assisting nearly 30,000 patients and answering over 400,000 patient inquiries. In October 2022, Novo Nordisk’s first digital platform supporting rare disease patient services, "NovoCare - Creating the Extraordinary," officially launched, offering digital services to hemophilia patients.
Xiaoping Zhou, Global Senior Vice President of Novo Nordisk and President of Greater China"For a century, Novo Nordisk has been committed to advancing innovation in the treatment of diabetes and other serious chronic diseases. In the future, we will rely on 'NovoCare' to leverage AI technology and build a more powerful and intelligent patient service platform. At the same time, we will explore diverse cooperation methods with local innovative forces to construct a digital health ecosystem, effectively transforming innovative achievements into patient benefits."
