On November 6, 2023, during the Sixth China International Import Expo, Novartis China and L'Oréal jointly announced that the two parties would leverage their respective expertise in healthcare and scientific skincare. By further deepening cross-sector cooperation, they aim to establish the concept of "integrated treatment and care" in scientific skincare as a platform to comprehensively expand in-depth collaboration in areas such as public welfare support and skin science research, working together to promote the Healthy China 2030 initiative in the field of skin health.

The on-site guests from left to right are: Ms. Zhou Shuangwei, General Manager of CeraVe China; Ms. Ma Lan, Vice President of L'Oréal China and General Manager of the Dermatological Beauty Division; Ms. Stephanie ENTRAYGUES, General Manager of North Asia for L'Oréal Group's Dermatological Beauty Division; Ms. Tian Yu, Vice President of Novartis China and Head of Immunology; Ms. Xu Yunlan, Vice President of Novartis China, Head of Communications and Patient Engagement; and Ms. Xu Wei, Senior Marketing Director of Immunology at Novartis China.
Both parties will promote doctor-patient communication and patient-to-patient encouragement through public welfare science popularization projects, bringing scientific, evidence-based "treatment and care integration" skincare concepts to more people, especially grassroots groups suffering from skin problems, to enhance the public's correct understanding of skin health. At the same time, both parties announced that they will continue to deepen cooperation with young and middle-aged doctors across China, promoting science education, jointly conducting skin science research, and building an academic discussion platform to create an expert-led science communication group in the dermatology field, thereby advancing the scientific development of China’s dermatology sector. Both parties will continue to help more patients in grassroots areas through health consultation activities, particularly those troubled by skin issues, supporting improvements in diagnostic and treatment standards for the benefit of tens of millions of dermatological patients in China.
Strengthen Doctor-Patient Interaction, Promote the "Treatment and Care Integration" Scientific Skin Care Concept
The skin is the first barrier protecting human health. With changes in the environment, climate, and lifestyle, an increasing number of people have experienced or are currently experiencing the distress caused by skin conditions. Abnormal skin barrier function, induced by various factors and including issues such as itching, scaling, dryness, and lesions, brings severe physical discomfort and psychological burdens to patients.
Dermatological diseases are different from other diseases. Most skin conditions cannot be completely cured and tend to recur. In addition to treating skin damage, special attention must be paid to daily skin care to reduce or avoid recurrence and better maintain skin health. Therefore, promoting doctor-patient communication and strengthening disease education are particularly important.
Both parties will promote the "treatment and care integration" scientific skin care concept through a series of disease education and patient awareness activities — which means that skin conditions not only need proper treatment but also require diligent care. The program will disseminate accurate disease management and care knowledge through doctor-patient and patient-to-patient exchange events, encouraging more patients to achieve skin renewal through scientifically standardized treatment. Patient opinion leaders will be invited to share their treatment experiences and care routines, helping those who have not yet achieved "clinical remission" understand the significance of innovative treatments in improving skin lesions, while boosting patients' confidence and hope for clearing skin damage.
Build a Research and Exchange Platform, Create a Dermatology Expert Science Communication Group
Middle-aged and young doctors are the main force in the development of healthcare and a key factor in the core competitiveness of hospitals. They are on the front lines of clinical practice and scientific research, playing an important role in advancing the clinical prevention and treatment of skin diseases while continuously accumulating experience in patient communication and scientific innovation.
Through this collaboration, both parties will jointly conduct skin science research, exploring the different roles of biologics and moisturizers in skin barrier repair, providing evidence-based medical evidence for numerous skin barrier damage-related diseases. Meanwhile, the project will build an academic exchange platform for young and middle-aged doctors, aiming to create a dermatology expert group for science popularization, discussing scientific skincare solutions related to clinical skin barrier damage diseases, promoting the in-depth concept of "treatment and care integration" of biologics and moisturizers, advancing the application and popularization of skin research results, ultimately benefiting more patients and promoting the development of dermatological medicine.
Advance Grassroots Science Popularization, Enhance Treatment Standards for a Wider Population
In recent years, primary healthcare services in China have continued to upgrade, with the three-tier healthcare service network covering urban and rural areas constantly improving. Primary healthcare institutions distributed across streets, communities, and townships are increasingly becoming the first choice for people to seek medical care and prescriptions. However, due to limitations such as regional medical development levels and awareness of skin diseases, some patients are unable to receive timely and scientific treatment, leading to worsening conditions.
Based on this, Novartis and L'Oréal will jointly advance a health public welfare consultation project, helping more people through various forms of activities, especially grassroots groups troubled by skin problems. They will assist these individuals in gaining timely and comprehensive disease treatment knowledge as well as more scientific skincare guidance, shortening the patient journey and improving diagnostic and treatment standards.
Explore Cross-Border Collaboration to Promote Skin Health for Tens of Millions of People in China
In April 2023, Novartis and L'Oréal signed a strategic cooperation memorandum, becoming a successful example of cross-disciplinary collaboration in the field of dermatological science through a groundbreaking partnership. The handshake at this year's CIIE marks version 2.0 of their cooperation, demonstrating the shared responsibility and commitment of these two international enterprises to dermatological science and the concept of scientific skincare.
