AstraZeneca's PD-L1 Inhibitor Combination Shows Positive Phase 3 Results in Liver Cancer, Significantly Improving PFS

Today, AstraZeneca announced positive results from a Phase 3 clinical trial of its重磅 PD-L1 inhibitor Imfinzi (durvalumab) in combination with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and bevacizumab in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) suitable for embolization treatment.According to the press release, this is the first time that systemic therapy combined with transarterial chemoembolization has improved clinical outcomes in such a patient population.First Global Phase 3 Trial。

Analysis results from the EMERALD-1 trial show,Compared with transarterial chemoembolization alone, patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who received Imfinzi combined with transarterial chemoembolization and bevacizumab showed statistically and clinically significant improvements in the primary endpoint of progression-free survival (PFS).These patients with hepatocellular carcinoma were assessed as suitable for embolization therapy.

The safety profile of Imfinzi combination therapy in the trial was consistent with the known characteristics of each drug, and no new safety findings were observed.

AstraZeneca will continue the trial to examine the secondary endpoint, overall survival (OS).

Imfinzi is a humanized monoclonal antibody. By binding to PD-L1, Imfinzi blocks the interaction between PD-L1 and PD-1 as well as CD80 proteins, thereby inhibiting the immune escape mechanism of tumors.Imfinzi has been approved in many countries and regions for the treatment of advanced bladder cancer patients. In the United States, China, the European Union, and many other countries and regions, this drug is also approved for the treatment of Stage III non-small cell lung cancer patients who are unable to undergo surgery and whose tumors have not progressed after chemoradiotherapy.
