【Pharmaceutical Network Product InformationRecently, during the Sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE), Beijing Peking University WBL Biotech Co., Ltd., a holding subsidiary of Luye Pharma, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with AstraZeneca Brazil and Herbarium Laboratorio Botanico S/A of Brazil. The three parties will work together to introduce Xuezhikang, a proprietary traditional Chinese medicine self-developed by Beijing Peking University WBL Biotech, into the Brazilian market, promoting the registration and commercialization of this innovative Chinese product in Brazil.

It is reported that Xuezhikang, a natural lipid-regulating medicine made from specially fermented red yeast rice using modern technology, has been on the market in China for more than 20 years. According to IQVIA, the total market value of drugs for hyperlipidemia, lowering cholesterol/triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in China was estimated to be approximately RMB 14.1 billion in 2017.

In June this year, Luye Pharma announced that Xuezhikang Capsules had been approved for marketing in Uzbekistan for the treatment of hyperlipidemia and as an adjuvant therapy for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases caused by hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis. The announcement stated that due to environmental and lifestyle factors, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders such as diabetes are highly prevalent in Uzbekistan, posing major threats to residents' health and life expectancy. The company believes that the launch of this product will benefit local patients. Meanwhile, the company expressed its intention to accelerate the promotion of Xuezhikang to more countries and regions in Central Asia and around the world.

The announcement disclosed that, in 2019, the group successively reached strategic cooperation with AstraZeneca regarding the product LipidCare. This included granting AstraZeneca the promotion rights for LipidCare in mainland China and Singapore, as well as both parties signing a memorandum of strategic cooperation to promote the internationalization of LipidCare. It is expected that by leveraging each other's resource advantages in domestic and overseas markets and product advantages, they will jointly accelerate the promotion of LipidCare to more countries and regions worldwide. Currently, the product is also available in markets such as Hong Kong, China, and Southeast Asia, and the market for LipidCare in Latin America is being actively developed.

The completed Phase II clinical trial in the U.S. under FDA regulations and the secondary prevention study of coronary heart disease in China (CCSPS), along with other large-scale clinical evidence-based medical studies, have confirmed the significant efficacy of Xuezhikang. The clinical study results of Xuezhikang combined with Ezetimibe also showed that whether used alone or in combination with Ezetimibe, Xuezhikang can significantly reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol ("LDL-C"), and the reduction of LDL-C when used in combination can reach 45%. In addition, the various beneficial components contained in Xuezhikang can work synergistically to lower blood lipids and protect the cardiovascular system.

The company stated that, based on clear lipid-lowering efficacy and safety, LipidCare has been recommended as the first-choice medication (IA) for patients with dyslipidemia in the "Chinese Guidelines for Lipid Management (2023)" and has been included in the new edition of the National Medical Insurance Drug List and the National Essential Medicines List.
