30 Pharma Companies Surpass RMB 10 Billion in Revenue as 2022 China Pharmaceutical Industry Top 100 List Unveiled

"Top 10 of China's Pharmaceutical Industry Top 100 in 2022" are as follows: China National Pharmaceutical Group, SPHFosun Pharmaceutical, GUANGZHOU PHARMACEUTICALS, CR PHARMA COMM, Qilu Pharmaceutical,SPH, CSPC PHARMACEUTICAL GROUP LIMITED, Correction Pharmaceutical Group Co.,Ltd., China Grand Enterprises,Inc, Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group Co.,Ltd. Among them, China Meheco Group Co.,Ltd. has ranked first for three consecutive years. The number of enterprises in the "10 billion yuan" club in the top 100 annual turnover increased to 30, adding 2 more compared to 2021.

"Innovation, chain supplementation, upgrading, and cooperation are the internal development reasons and driving forces behind the breakthrough growth achieved by the top 100 pharmaceutical enterprises in the past year. These also highlight the main development trends of China's pharmaceutical industry," said Guo Wen, Director of the China Pharmaceutical Industry Information Center at the conference. These top 100 Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises will play a crucial role in high-quality development, integrated collaborative development, and other aspects, and will shoulder their due responsibilities to create more brilliant achievements.

Reporters from the Health Client of People's Daily learned at the scene of the 2023 (40th) China Pharmaceutical Industry Information Annual Conference that in 2022, the pharmaceutical industry demonstrated strong development resilience in a severe environment. The main business revenue of the top 100 enterprises in 2022 exceeded one trillion yuan, reaching 1,033.21 billion yuan. Meanwhile, after a brief decline in 2020, the threshold for entering the top 100 has increased for two consecutive years. In 2022, the threshold for entering the top 100 increased by 8% year-on-year, reaching 3.39 billion yuan.

Moreover, the top 100 list of this year also reflects a further deepening of the regional agglomeration effect in the pharmaceuticals industry. Data shows that in 2022, 55 out of the top 100 companies were concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regions, contributing 60.7% of the main business revenue and 65.1% of the profits. Among them, Beijing, as the largest pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing center in China, ranked first nationwide in terms of the scale of main business operations of the top 100 enterprises in its region.

It is worth mentioning that, focusing on "innovation capability," the top 100 companies have reached new heights in R&D investment and innovative achievements. In terms of R&D intensity, the average expenditure of the top 100 companies in 2022 reached 7.76 billion yuan, with an average growth rate of 4.9%. From the perspective of innovative results, a total of 17 domestically produced innovative drugs were approved for marketing among the companies listed on the top 100 list in 2022. "The data clearly shows that pharmaceutical companies in China are increasingly valuing R&D and are willing to invest more money into R&D expenses, genuinely driving innovation in domestic pharmaceuticals," said Guo Wen.

"At the current stage, China's pharmaceutical industry still faces some challenges and problems that need to be urgently addressed. 'However, we believe that a group of Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises represented by the top 100 pharmaceutical companies in China will tackle various difficulties with perseverance, seize opportunities, and adapt to changes. They will seek new development models with a global perspective and strategic vision, and outline a brand-new blueprint for a Chinese-style transformation and development plan,' said Guo Wen."
