Intelligent Finance APP learned that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK.US) has shipped its first batch of 331,200 doses of the malaria vaccine Mosquirix to Africa. It is reported that before the vaccine was shipped to Africa, it had been used in pilot projects in Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi.

Data shows that in 2021, 619,000 people globally died from malaria, with 96% of these deaths occurring in Africa. According to the World Health Organization, children under five are particularly vulnerable to malaria, accounting for approximately 80% of malaria-related deaths in the African region.

Mosquirix is the world's first approved vaccine for combating malaria, and it officially received approval from the World Health Organization last year. Earlier this year, the World Health Organization approved a second malaria vaccine, R21.
