Recently, Thermo Fisher Scientific (hereinafter referred to as: Thermo Fisher), a global leader in empowering scientific progress, and Sangon Biotech (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as: Sangon Biotech), a well-known supplier of life science services and products in China, held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony in Shanghai.

This cooperation, based on the initial strategic partnership signed by both parties on August 16, 2023, expands the scope of collaboration from the field of genetic science to the field of chromatography and mass spectrometry. Relying on Thermo Fisher Scientific's globally leading chromatography and mass spectrometry technology and Sangon Biotech's advanced industrial operation and localization advantages, both parties will jointly promote active exploration and breakthroughs across the entire biotechnology sector, particularly in improving quality control for industrial production and providing solutions for in vitro diagnostics and biopharmaceutical applications.
This strategic cooperation will significantly enhance Sangon Biotech's quality control capabilities and throughput in the production of core raw materials for upstream medical diagnostics, including Oligo synthesis.

Mark Smedley, Senior Vice President of Thermo Fisher Scientific and President of Asia-Pacific and Latin America, Ms. Wang Luojia, CEO of Sangon Biotech (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., and representatives from Novo Holdings, an investor in Sangon Biotech, attended the signing ceremony.

The chromatography and mass spectrometry business boasts an extremely comprehensive product line in the industry, fully covering analytical needs for various types of testing, bringing infinite possibilities for bio-applications in the future.

Sangon Biotech has undergone nearly three decades of development since its establishment in the 1990s. From the very beginning, I have regarded product quality as the lifeline of the company’s growth and made it the motto for all our employees. When it comes to selecting key testing equipment, I insist on using the best brands and the highest-quality devices. Thermo Fisher Scientific, as a platform provider with globally leading chromatography and mass spectrometry technologies, earns my definition of "the best" not only because of the products themselves but also due to their consistent, high-quality service and support throughout the years as Sangon Biotech has grown. Additionally, I have learned that mass spectrometry technology holds vast potential in clinical testing applications. This aligns perfectly with the collaboration point between Thermo Fisher Scientific as the technology platform provider and Sangon Biotech as an upstream solutions provider. I believe that both parties can work together wholeheartedly in this new field, jointly exploring broader market opportunities and empowering China's life sciences industry.![]()

The rapid development of biology is transforming the industrial landscape of the biotechnology sector. Currently, biotechnology has been widely applied in multiple fields such as food, agriculture, and healthcare. With the issuance of China's "14th Five-Year Plan for Bioeconomy Development," biology research, hailed as the "Third Biotech Revolution," is gaining significant momentum. However, the underlying logic for constructing biological systems is still in the exploratory stage, and the entire field of biology is in its early developmental phase, requiring advanced enabling technologies and solutions to drive the rapid growth of the biology industry.
In addition to the PCR testing that became widely known due to COVID-19 and the popular NGS testing in recent years, the application of mass spectrometry in clinical settings has also been a hot topic in the industry.
Sangon Biotech in the upstream of IVD currently still provides products and services mainly for the PCR field, serving thousands of downstream molecular diagnostics enterprises. In recent years, it has also gradually gained scale in the NGS field. With the determination of the company's new strategy and positioning, the future goal is to become a dual-platform provider of products and services offering comprehensive solutions for industrial applications in biopharmaceutical diagnostics. Therefore, the company is also entering new hot tracks, particularly in clinical mass spectrometry applications. Empowered by Thermo Fisher Scientific and combined with Sangon Biotech’s own R&D and innovation capabilities, this can accelerate the innovation and R&D process of Sangon Biotech in upstream raw materials, consumables, and CRO services for clinical mass spectrometry.
Thermo Fisher Scientific and Sangon Biotech (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will collaborate to explore more possibilities in scientific research, life sciences, and engineering, jointly promoting active exploration and continuous breakthroughs throughout the biotechnology field.
