Yang Maojun, Professor at the School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University, and Researcher at the Beijing Frontier Research Center for Biological StructuresShared "The Molecular Basis of Breathing: How to Break the Limits of Human Lifespan," stating that human aging is mainly due to the decrease in the efficiency of oxygen utilization by somatic cells as age increases, which is primarily reflected in changes in the number of breaths per minute. For example, infants breathe 30-50 times per minute, adults 16-20 times, and elderly people 14-16 times. Engaging in activities that increase the number of breaths, such as running until out of breath, is beneficial for the body. In addition to using appropriate medications to improve oxygen utilization efficiency, the most economical approach is regular exercise. Exercise not only enhances respiratory function but also strengthens mitochondrial function, thereby reducing inflammation.
