2023EditionChina's National Medical Insurance Drug List Officially Released, pharmaceutical companies that have been busy for a year finally have results.

The following lists eight multinational pharmaceutical companies that have garnered significant attention, and examines which of their drugs have been successfully included in the NRDL:

Roche

According to Roche Pharmaceuticals, nine innovative drugs from Roche Pharmaceuticals China have been included in the updated National Medical Insurance Catalog. They are: Herceptin® (Trastuzumab Injection (Subcutaneous)), Rozlytrek® (Entrectinib), Enspryng® (Satralizumab), Mircera® (Methoxy Polyethylene Glycol-Epoetin Beta), Alecensa® (Alectinib), Perjeta® (Pertuzumab), Gazyva® (Obinutuzumab), Evrysdi® (Risdiplam), and Xofluza® (Baloxavir Marboxil).

Among them, Evrysdi, Xofluza, Alecensa, Gavreto, and Perjeta are drugs previously included in the National Medical Insurance Catalog by Roche. In this adjustment of the medical insurance catalog, they have successfully added new indications and renewed their listings.

In addition, Herceptin, the first subcutaneous formulation of a monoclonal antibody for breast cancer, Rozlytrek, which fills the gap for NTRK gene fusion-positive solid tumors and ROS1-positive brain metastatic diseases, Enspryng, which addresses the unmet need in adolescent Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD), and Mircera, which fills the treatment gap for renal anemia, have been included in the new edition of the National Medical Insurance Catalog through their first negotiation.

Roche's products are of high quality and clinical value, so this outcome was expected. Among these products, the one that left the deepest impression on me personally is Xofluza, which was a great help during this flu season.

Bayer

According to Bayer, innovative drugs in three major therapeutic areas of Bayer—oncology, cardiovascular, and diabetes—have successfully been included in the 2023 National Medical Insurance Drug List in China. These drugs are Nubeq (Darolutamide Tablets), Verquvo (Vericiguat Tablets), and Huatangning (Dorzagliatin Tablets).

Verquvo® (Vericiguat Tablets) is a novel mechanism-based chronic heart failure treatment drug developed by Bayer. Its successful inclusion in the new edition of the National Medical Insurance Catalog will significantly reduce the treatment burden for chronic heart failure patients in China.

Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Janssen Pharmaceuticals' seven innovative drugs have received good news, including the inclusion of DARZALEX (daratumumab injection) for first-line treatment of multiple myeloma and STELARA (ustekinumab injection) for pediatric and adolescent psoriasis in the National Reimbursement Drug List (NRDL) in China.

In addition, the second-line and later-line treatment indications for multiple myeloma of Darzalex, the adult psoriasis and adult Crohn's disease indications of Stelara, as well as five other products originally in the directory, have been successfully renewed.

The innovative drugs that Janssen has included in the national medical insurance catalog cover disease areas such as immunology, oncology, rare diseases, and pulmonary arterial hypertension, further improving patients' accessibility and affordability of these innovative drugs. This marks another milestone for Janssen in enhancing patient access to innovative treatments.

Novartis

Novartis successfully included two new products and two new indications in the 2023 National Medical Insurance Drug List of China, including all indications from the instructions for **Kesimpta®** (Ribociclib Succinate Tablets) and **Xolair®** (Omalizumab Injection) pre-filled formulation. Additionally, **Jakavi®** (Ruxolitinib Phosphate Tablets) received a new indication "for the treatment of patients aged 12 years and above with acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) who have had an insufficient response to corticosteroids or other systemic treatments," and **Promacta®** (Eltrombopag Olamine Tablets) obtained a new indication "for patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) who have had an insufficient response to prior immunosuppressive therapy."

In addition, the original indications of four products, Entresto® (Sacubitril Valsartan Sodium Tablets), Lucentis® (Ranibizumab Injection), Xolair® (Omalizumab for Injection), and Afinitor® (Everolimus Tablets), have been successfully renewed.

Fresenius Kabi

Fresenius Kabi China has successfully included three products in the latest National Medical Insurance Drug List, including Andawen® (Injectable Multi-Trace Elements (III)), AmiYiJia™ (Compound Amino Acid (16AA)/Glucose (12.6%) Electrolyte Injection), and Feixinjie® (Injectable Iron Carboxymaltose).

Eli Lilly and Company

Eli Lilly also announced the successful inclusion of multiple products (including new indications) in the new National Reimbursement Drug List (NRDL) in China, including: CDK4 & 6 inhibitor Verzenio® (abemaciclib tablets) for HR+, HER2- lymph node-positive, high-risk recurrence with Ki-67 ≥20% early breast cancer adjuvant treatment newly included in the NRDL. Additionally, two other indications—HR+, HER2- advanced endocrine-sensitive and advanced endocrine-resistant—have been successfully renewed; PD-1 inhibitor Tyvyt® (sintilimab injection) has added a new indication for EGFR-TKI treatment-failed EGFR mutation-positive locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer to its existing NRDL coverage; IL-17A inhibitor Taltz® (ixekizumab injection) for plaque psoriasis has been successfully renewed, with a new indication for ankylosing spondylitis also added to the NRDL. Furthermore, the colorectal cancer drug Elunate® (fruquintinib capsules) has been successfully renewed.

Bristol-Myers Squibb

Bristol-Myers Squibb's new selective sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator, Zeposia® (ozanimod hydrochloride capsules), has been officially included in the new National Medical Insurance Drug List.

Rezopyxia is a new drug that most buddies are not yet familiar with, but the indications should be well-known. This drug was approved by the National Medical Products Administration in January 2023 for the treatment of adult relapsing multiple sclerosis, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, and active secondary progressive multiple sclerosis.

GlaxoSmithKline PLC.

GSK Successfully Renews Three Innovative Drugs in the 2023 National Medical Insurance Catalogue: Benlysta (Belimumab for Injection), Anoro Ellipta (Umeclidinium Vilanterol Inhalation Powder), and Dovato (Lamivudine and Dolutegravir Tablets).

Benlysta: Successfully renewed and expanded to include adult lupus nephritis indication, now covering patients aged 5 years and above with systemic lupus erythematosus and adult patients with active lupus nephritis.
Onbrez: Successfully renewed and the original restricted payment scope has been removed, applicable for the long-term maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Dovato: Successfully renewed, restricted to HIV infection.
