Beijing News (Reporter Zhang Zhaohui) On December 19, Qilu Pharmaceutical announced that the Empagliflozin Tablets had been approved for marketing and were deemed to have passed the consistency evaluation.

Empagliflozin is a new generation of SGLT2 inhibitor, which reduces renal glucose reabsorption, lowers the renal glucose threshold, and promotes glucose excretion through urine. It is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and can be combined with other hypoglycemic drugs to achieve a synergistic effect. A large number of clinical studies have confirmed that Empagliflozin tablets can bring dual cardiovascular and renal benefits to diabetic patients and are one of the preferred treatment drugs for type 2 diabetic patients with cardiovascular disease.

Empagliflozin, the original research drug jointly developed by Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly, was approved for marketing in the United States in August 2014. Its indication is to be used in conjunction with diet control and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. In December 2016, empagliflozin was approved in the United States for a new indication: reducing cardiovascular risk in patients with type 2 diabetes. In 2017, the drug was approved for entry into China under the trade name Jardiance, as monotherapy or in combination with metformin to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. In 2018, Jardiance won the International Galien Award for "Best Pharmaceutical Product," an award considered the Nobel Prize of pharmaceutical research and innovation.

According to the query on the official website of the National Medical Products Administration, except for Qilu Pharmaceutical, the empagliflozin tablets of Sichuan Kelun Pharmaceutical, Zhengda Tianqing Pharmaceutical, Tiandi Hengyi Pharmaceutical, Lepu Pharmaceutical, Zhejiang Huayi Pharmaceutical, Jiangsu Wanbang Biochemical Pharmaceutical, Jiangsu Deyuan Pharmaceutical, Hangzhou Zhongmei Huadong Pharmaceutical, Tonghua Dongbao Pharmaceutical, Jiangsu Aosaikang Pharmaceutical, and Jiangsu Hai'an Pharmaceutical have been successively approved for marketing.

Qilu Pharmaceutical stated that it is actively expanding into the hypoglycemic drug field, with several hypoglycemic drugs already on the market, such as Metformin Hydrochloride Tablets, Saxagliptin Tablets, Linagliptin Tablets, and Linagliptin Metformin Tablets. More hypoglycemic drugs will be launched in the future.
