China Finance and Economics Network, January 14th: Yesterday, at the "2024 Wuxi Lung Cancer Prevention and Treatment Industry Conference and the First Lung Cancer Prevention Week," AstraZeneca, together with ecosystem partners Varian Medical Systems, Amoy Diagnostics Co. LTD., LinkDoc, Zhuhai Sanmed BIOTECH Ltd., LBX Pharmacy Chain Joint Stock Company, and Sinopharm Holding Guoda Pharmacy Co.,Ltd., established the "Lung Cancer Prevention and Treatment Industry Alliance."
The alliance will focus on the prevention and treatment of lung cancer, standardized diagnosis and treatment, and whole-course management of pulmonary health. It aims to jointly promote the development and popularization of innovative technologies in the field of lung cancer and help the industry establish a standardized diagnosis and treatment system for lung cancer.

On the same day, the "Jiangsu Respiratory Intervention Alliance Academy," jointly established by 23 hospitals across 11 cities in Jiangsu Province, including Wuxi, Nanjing, and Suzhou, was also inaugurated at the conference. The academy will adopt a multi-city collaboration model to comprehensively enhance the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of grassroots respiratory departments, fully leveraging the crucial role of respiratory intervention techniques in the precise diagnosis, comprehensive management, localized treatment, and cancer-lung co-treatment of pulmonary nodules and lung cancer.
Data released by the National Cancer Center in 2022 shows that among the 4.064 million new cancer patients in China, 828,000 were diagnosed with lung cancer; among the 2.414 million people who died of cancer, 657,000 had lung cancer.
Gu Guodong, member of the Party Working Committee of Wuxi High-tech Zone, Deputy Director of the Management Committee, Standing Committee member of Xinwu District, and Deputy District Chief, stated that lung cancer, as a highly prevalent tumor globally, poses a significant threat to human health. "Wuxi High-tech Zone aims to leverage its strengths in the biopharmaceutical industry and seize the opportunity presented by this conference to collaborate with experts, scholars, and industry peers engaged in lung cancer prevention and research. By connecting various fields such as government, industry, academia, research, medicine, and investment, we will focus on key aspects of lung cancer prevention and control. We will explore how to further promote the widespread adoption of early lung cancer screening and technological innovation, and how to rely on local industrial resources and scientific research capabilities in Wuxi to achieve continuous breakthroughs in lung cancer treatment methods. Through interdisciplinary and cross-field collaborative efforts, we will continuously improve the quality and efficiency of comprehensive lung cancer management, contributing to the high-quality development of lung cancer prevention and the broader life sciences and healthcare industry."
AstraZeneca's relevant responsible person stated that co-organizing the Wuxi Lung Cancer Prevention and Treatment Industry Conference marks a new beginning for AstraZeneca in the field of lung cancer prevention and treatment. It is hoped that this platform can become an exchange and sharing hub with extensive resources and efficient connections within the innovative ecosystem for lung cancer prevention and treatment. This will help promote the establishment of a more comprehensive lung cancer diagnosis and treatment system, which can then be replicated and extended to more types of cancers. It aims to assist Chinese cancer patients in prolonging their lives while maintaining a good quality of life, and also provide new opportunities and value for building an efficient and innovative prevention and treatment ecosystem.
