Bayer Announces Management Restructuring Focused on German Headquarters Amid New Operational Model Rollout

On January 17, Bayer announced on its official website the launch of a new operating model worldwide. This model helps the company reduce hierarchy, eliminate bureaucracy, streamline operations, and accelerate decision-making processes.

Last November, Bayer stated that the company's losses had widened again, with a loss of 35.553 billion yuan in the third quarter. To improve its operating performance, senior management at Bayer agreed to further cut expenses.The layoffs will take place soon over the next few months, primarily targeting managerial staff and those responsible for coordination, and will be completed by the end of 2025.Bayer has mainly disclosed the layoff plan for its German headquarters.

Bayer makes clear statement: Until the end of 2026, Bayer will not carry out mandatory staff reductions.If employees are laid off by the company, the company will still provide career guidance and training for those affected. Heike Hausfeld, Vice Chair of the Supervisory Board of Bayer AG and Chair of the Works Council, stated: The company will ensure employment protection agreements with employees until the end of 2026.

On January 16, according to foreign media reports, the German Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union (IG BCE) opposed Bayer's plan to split its three major business divisions: pharmaceuticals, consumer health, and crop science. The reason is that the spin-off would lead to many Germans losing their jobs. In response, Bayer stated in an announcement that it had reached an agreement with employee representatives to improve Bayer’s pension plans, among other things. Bayer CEO Bill Anderson once stated,The spin-offs of the consumer health and crop science divisions will not happen simultaneously.
