On January 30, in Chicago, COUR Pharmaceuticals, a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing first-in-class disease-modifying therapies to induce immune tolerance to antigens in immune-mediated diseases, announced the completion of a $105 million Series A financing round. The round was co-led by Lumira Ventures and Alpha Wave Ventures, with participation from Roche Venture Fund, Pfizer (as part of Pfizer's Breakthrough Growth Initiative), Bristol-Myers Squibb, Angelini Ventures, and JDRF T1D Fund. In September 2022, the company completed a $30 million financing round led by Alpha Wave Ventures.
The proceeds from the financing will enable COUR to leverage the company's immune tolerance platform (This foundational technology was licensed from Professor Steve Miller's laboratory at Northwestern University and draws on over 30 years of immune tolerance research.) Develop multiple candidate pipelines, including Phase 2a proof-of-concept clinical studies for myasthenia gravis and type 1 diabetes, as well as other pipeline opportunities. These candidate pipelines, along with the existing Phase 2 collaboration projects with Takeda Pharmaceutical in celiac disease and with Ironwood Pharmaceuticals in primary biliary cholangitis, continue to strengthen COUR's leading position in antigen-specific immune tolerance.
John J. Puisis, founder and CEO of COUR, stated:"An impressive consortium of thought leader investors and renowned strategic investors validates COUR’s platform technology, as well as our paradigm-shifting potential for patients affected by various autoimmune diseases. We are thrilled to have this support as we advance our pipeline, revolutionizing antigen-specific immune tolerance while avoiding systemic immune suppression—our mission is to deliver potentially life-changing therapies to patients."Follow the official account below to see the world!
