AI Drug Trial Instrument Developer
Recently, Unlearn, a developer of digital twin technology, announced the successful completion of its second round$50 million (approximately 359 million RMB)Financing, this round of financing was led by Altimeter Capital, with participation from Insight Partners (the previous Series B lead investor) and existing investors including 8VC, DCVC, and DCVC Bio.
This financing will enable Unlearn.AITotal funds raised exceed $130 million (RMB 933 million)The company plans to use these funds to expand the team, enhance computing power, and invest in long-term R&D projects, particularly in expanding its technology to more therapeutic areas to increase visibility and demonstrate the value of its technology.
Digital twin technology reduces the need for control groups in clinical trials, accelerates trial progress, and speeds up new drug launches. Startups like Unlearn.AI and Twin Health, along with their technologies, are expected to bring revolutionary changes to medical research and patient treatment.

Unlearn is a startup that develops digital twin models using artificial intelligence technology. Its technology creates a model for each patient participating in clinical trials by analyzing their health records, then uses this digital twin to predict how the patient's health would change if given a placebo treatment. By applying Unlearn’s predictive results to the digital twin models of the experimental group, researchers can reduce the number of participants needed for the control group. This not only allows more patients to receive potentially beneficial experimental treatments but also helps accelerate recruitment and the overall trial timeline, thereby speeding up the time to market for new drugs.
Unlearn.AI has received qualification from the European Medicines Agency, allowing its digital twin technology to be used in Phase II and III clinical trials. It has also gained recognition from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), with its AI-driven approach meeting U.S. regulatory guidelines for clinical trials.

The company's three founders come from Leap Motion. Founder and CEOCharles K. Fischer is a Bachelor of Biophysics from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Harvard University. Before starting his entrepreneurial journey, Charles worked as a machine learning engineer at Leap Motion and as a computational biologist at Pfizer. He was a Philippe Meyer Fellow in Theoretical Physics at École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France, and a postdoctoral researcher in Biophysics at Boston University.
Unlike Unlearn, which focuses on clinical trials, Twin Health's digital twin technology is designed for use as a digital therapeutic. Its Whole Body Digital Twin service analyzes users' health records, wearable device data, and questionnaire responses to generate AI-driven recommendations for improving metabolic health. A recent study demonstrated that Twin Health's technology significantly improves health outcomes for individuals with type 2 diabetes, highlighting the potential and value of digital twin technology in healthcare.
