On February 14, 2024, Abbott, a global leading healthcare company, announced that it has established a partnership with Fujirebio, a company focused on the biotechnology field, to jointly develop a research-use-only neurofilament light chain (Nf-L) neurobiomarker assay.

The two companies jointly developed this detection method, which is suitable for Abbott's Alinity i instrument. Abbott plans to provide this detection method to scholars who are committed to researching and demonstrating the efficacy of the Nf-L biomarker. According to the press release, there are currently various ongoing studies related to neurological diseases, including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury, and cognitive impairment.

As a company with extensive experience in the biotechnology field, Fujirebio has always been committed to providing high-quality products and services to customers worldwide. With its leading technology and excellent R&D capabilities, Fujirebio has achieved significant results in the field of biomarker testing. This collaboration with Abbott will help both parties achieve resource sharing and complementary advantages in the neuroscience field, providing researchers with more efficient and precise detection methods.
Abbott and Fujirebio Plan to Offer This Test Method for the Alinity i System in 2025, Which Will Be the Exclusive Set of Test Methods Introduced for Research Use on the Alinity i System. Abbott Aims to Explore Research Applications of Other Novel Biomarkers Through Alinity i to Support the Research Community and Accelerate the Development of Diagnostic and Treatment Methods.
Fujirebio President and CEO Monte Wilt said that the collaboration aims to bring a higher standard of care to patients and families battling neurodegenerative diseases.
Dr. Beth McQuiston, medical director of Abbott's diagnostics business and a board-certified neurologist, said: "Introducing Nf-L to Alinity i will enable researchers to take full advantage of the convenience and functionality of Abbott's Alinity i instruments, which can be found in laboratories across the United States. Biomarkers play a crucial role in identifying and treating diseases, and having the right testing technology will help support and advance neuroscience research.
