On February 19, Almirall S.A., a global pharmaceutical company dedicated to medical dermatology, announced today that it has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Novo Nordisk for the rights to the IL-21 blocking monoclonal antibody NN-8828.

According to the agreement, Almirall has obtained global rights to develop and commercialize this monoclonal antibody in certain fields.

Novo Nordisk will receive an upfront payment, additional development and commercial milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties based on future global sales. The transaction amount has not been disclosed.

NN-8828 is a first-in-class high-affinity monoclonal antibody in the field of dermatology.Targeting the cytokine IL-21, developed by Novo Nordisk, for Phase II non-dermatological indications. NN-8828 has the potential to block the activation of downstream signaling pathways of IL-21 and inhibit the pathological and physiological functions induced by this cytokine in various immune cells. This differentiated mechanism makes NN-8828 a promising option for treating inflammatory and autoimmune skin diseases.
