According to Johnson & Johnson's 2023 financial report, the company's total sales for the year reached $85.159 billion, representing a 6.5% increase year-over-year. Pharmaceutical sales grew by 4.2% to $54.759 billion, while medical technology business revenue increased by 10.8% to $30.4 billion.
Johnson & Johnson stated that the growth of its pharmaceuticals division was driven by the sales of Darzalex, a biologic for treating multiple myeloma, Erleada for prostate cancer treatment, and other oncology drugs. Johnson & Johnson's blockbuster drug, Stelara, also contributed to the growth. Stelara is used to treat several chronic and potentially disabling conditions, including Crohn's disease. Data shows that Johnson & Johnson’s pharmaceutical business primarily focuses on the following key areas: autoimmune diseases, oncology, neuroscience, infectious diseases, pulmonary arterial hypertension, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
For the 2024 earnings outlook, Johnson & Johnson expects a 5%-6% increase, with total revenue expected to reach $88.2-$89.0 billion. Adjusted earnings per share are projected to be $10.55 to $10.75.
According to Roche's 2023 financial report, the company's total revenue for the full year of 2023 was 58.716 billion Swiss francs (approximately 65.627 billion US dollars), representing a year-on-year increase of 1%; net profit was 12.358 billion Swiss francs, up 7% year-on-year; R&D investment amounted to 13.237 billion Swiss francs, increasing by 5% year-on-year.
Among them, Roche's Vabysmo achieved sales of up to $2.634 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 324%. The product is an innovative VEGF-A/Ang2 bispecific antibody specifically designed for intravitreal injection, which enhances vascular stability while also reducing retinal leakage. Data shows that Roche's pharmaceutical business mainly focuses on disease areas such as oncology, immunology, neurology, hemophilia, infectious diseases, and ophthalmic diseases.
According to the 2023 earnings report released by Merck & Co., Inc., the company achieved a total revenue of $60.115 billion in 2023, representing a 1% year-over-year increase. The pharmaceutical business revenue reached $53.583 billion, marking a 3% growth. Specifically, revenue from the China region amounted to $6.71 billion, accounting for 12.5% of Merck’s global market and showing a 32% year-over-year increase.
MSD's pharmaceutical business revenue was mainly driven by the increase in sales of oncology drugs (especially Keytruda, also known as K drug), the increase in vaccine sales, reflecting the strong growth in sales of the HPV vaccine portfolio (Gardasil/Gardasil 9) and the 15-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine Vaxneuvance, as well as the growth of hospital acute care products including the anti-cytomegalovirus drug Prevymis and the anesthetic Bridion.
The report shows that Keytruda (Pembrolizumab) achieved annual revenue of $25.011 billion, representing a 19% year-over-year increase. HPV vaccines Gardasil/Gardasil 9 saw sales reach $8.886 billion, driven by strong demand in the Chinese market, marking a 29% year-over-year growth.

Novo Nordisk's total sales in 2023 reached DKK 232.261 billion (approximately USD 34.430 billion), representing a year-on-year increase of 36%, with a net profit of DKK 83.683 billion (USD 12.405 billion), up 51% year-on-year.
