ShanghaiFebruary 26, 2024PR Newswire -- Today, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., a global leading biopharmaceutical company, and Jiangsu Nhwa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced the deuterium drug Austedo developed by Teva.®Reach Distribution Agreement in China. This collaboration aims to leverage Jiangsu Nhwa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.'s leadership position in the neuro-psychiatric health field and its comprehensive channel resources to further expand Austedo.®Improving accessibility for patients in China, helping more patients with chorea associated with Huntington's disease and tardive dyskinesia to enhance their health conditions and regain a stable life.
Huntington's Disease (HD) is a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder. Chorea is one of the most prominent manifestations of this disease, characterized by involuntary muscle movements, and occurs in approximately 90% of patients.[1]. Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a debilitating movement disorder characterized by repetitive and uncontrollable movements of the tongue, lips, face, torso, and extremities. In recent years, multiple studies in China have shown that the prevalence of tardive dyskinesia in patients with schizophrenia is 36.0%-46.5%.[2][3][4], higher than the global level (25.3%)[5]). Chorea associated with Huntington's disease and adult-onset tardive dyskinesia are both serious neurological disorders that directly impact the daily functional abilities and quality of life of patients.
As the first deuterated drug approved in China, Austedo®Deutetrabenazine®Officially approved in 2020 and included in the national medical insurance in the same year, significantly improving drug accessibility and affordability, benefiting patients in China.
